Ready-to-install ground anchors make for faster excavations
Anchors installed at Duba Green Power Plant were pre-grouted at the Dextra factory
For Duba Green Power Plant, Dextra supplied its Geotec Double Corrosion Protection (DCP) Permanent Steel ground anchors to prevent soil movement in the perimeter of the excavation.
Dextra provided a “factory grouting” service, meaning that the anchors arrived at the site as pre-grouted 12-meters segments, ready to re-connect via couplers and to install.

“No-need-for-removal” anchors
Nagpur Metro Zero Mile Station in India advantageously substitutes
removable anchors for ASTEC (FRP) Active Anchors.
Typical “removable anchors” are steel tendons which are stabilizing soil as a temporary application. At the end of a project “removable anchors” require a lot of force in order to be removed. Applying excessive force can be hazardous because it may lead to an anchor failure, which is both dangerous for site personnel and will lead to even greater and potentially more dangerous extraction problems.
Now imagine anchors being made of a material which can be left in the ground without being an issue for future construction or land users, even if some segments extend beyond the site boundary: that is precisely what Dextra is offering with its ASTEC Active Anchor.
The ASTEC Active Anchor offers the same convenience as a conventional anchor (couplers for extended length, PT strands for stressing), but uses FRP (Fiber Reinforced Polymer) bar as the main tensile element, a material which can be cut and removed at a later stage by standard ground excavation equipment.
This means it can simply remain in the ground, without being an issue to future contractors or land users. This significantly reduces project planning and budget.
High performance FRP anchoring systems
Nagpur Metro in India is the latest project to take advantage of the ASTEC (FRP) Active Anchor technology, with 64 anchors being installed around the excavation perimeter.
Cantilever precast elements installed in Abu Dhabi
Groutec couplers are supplied for the tribunes of a police training facility
The Al Haffar Abu Dhabi Training Facility is a project by the Abu Dhabi Ministry of Interior. Dextra has been involved on the construction of the tribune facing the police training area. The project is led by contractor Express Facility Management.
Groutec “L” for rebar diameter 32 have been installed to anchor large precast “L-shaped” cantilever elements, which will ultimately span over the tribunes.

Louvre Abu Dhabi opening
Dextra supplied Bartec rebar couplers to the project between 2013 and 2014
Louvre Abu Dhabi is a new innovative art and civilization museum located North of Abu Dhabi city, capital of the United Arab Emirates. It is the largest museum on the Arabian peninsula, with a total surface of 24,000 square meters. The Louvre Museum Abu Dhabi opened its doors on the 11th of November 2017.
For this project, Dextra supplied Bartec rebar coupler between 2013 and 2014. These were used by the main contractor Arabtec for all rebar connections in the raft and columns. Couplers were also used as a way to create temporary openings in the reinforcement structure to allow passage of men and equipment. A total of 110,000 connections were supplied for this project.
Dextra Bartec is approved by the Dubai Central Laboratory (DCL) and sold widely in the UAE through an extensive network of Dextra partner distributors.
Pedestrian bridge suspension with tension bars
An aesthetic and easy-to-install way to anchor small bridges
Tension Bars do not have to always span long distances, such as the ones seen on stadium roofs. Tension bars of shorter lengths and smaller diameters can also be used in numerous other applications, such as facade trusses, stiffenings, cross-bracing applications and pedestrian bridge supports.
The application above illustrates an example of tension bars holding a pedestrian bridge which allows the passage of customers between two large commercial malls in Bangkok. The structure is supported on both sides by Grade 500 bars of diameter 45 mm (thread size M48). The use of fork ends and pin connections allow for a fast installation and in-situ length adjustment.
