Rail Baltica Bridge Over Neris River, Lithuania

Rail Baltica Bridge over the Neris River, Lithuania

The construction of the Rail Baltica Bridge over the Neris River near Jonava marks a significant milestone in the region’s railway infrastructure. Stretching 1.5 kilometers, this bridge will not only be the longest in Lithuania but also in the entire Baltic States. Designed with a variety of spans—including cast-in-place from a traveler, cast-in-place supported on falsework, and span-by-span cantilever—the project showcases advanced engineering techniques and a commitment to environmental protection.

Dextra plays a vital role in guaranteeing the structural integrity of the bridge by supplying Sonitec crosshole sonic logging (CSL) testing tubes for the testing of piles. CSL testing is a crucial procedure that provides real-time insights into the quality and soundness of the concrete in the piles, ensuring they meet stringent safety standards. This advanced technology enables engineers to detect anomalies and assess the quality of the concrete, ensuring the long-term durability of the bridge.

The use of Sonitec is particularly important given the engineering complexity of the bridge and the environmental considerations surrounding its construction. By integrating this technology, Dextra helps to uphold the highest standards of construction and environmental stewardship.

The Rail Baltica project represents the largest railway infrastructure development in the history of the Baltic States. Once completed, it will provide an electrified double-track European gauge railway line connecting major cities such as Warsaw, Kaunas, Riga, and Tallinn. This ambitious project will span a total of 870 kilometers, with 392 kilometers in Lithuania alone.

With the Rail Baltica Bridge over the Neris River, Dextra is proud to contribute to a landmark project that promises to enhance regional connectivity, promote sustainable transport solutions, and respect the delicate balance between development and environmental conservation. As construction progresses, the bridge will stand as a testament to innovative engineering and collaboration, paving the way for a brighter and more connected future in the Baltics.

Mumbai Metro Line 2B, India

The Mumbai Metro Line 2B, an essential link connecting several key areas of the city, is a significant infrastructure project aimed at alleviating Mumbai’s traffic congestion and providing efficient public transport. As part of this ambitious project, Dextra has made a valuable contribution, supplying engineered construction materials to ensure the durability and reliability of the structure.

CR Bar 1080 for U-Girder Stressing and Pre-Tensioning

One of the critical components of the project is the elevated section of the metro, which relies on U-girders for support. To enhance the strength and resilience of these U-girders, Dextra supplied its innovative CR Bar 1080 cold-rolled fully threaded post-tensioning bars. These bars, with a diameter of 75mm, are specifically designed to withstand high stress during both U-girder stressing and pre-tensioning operations. The hexagonal nuts provided as part of the system allow for secure fastening and easy adjustment, ensuring precise tensioning to meet the structural demands.

Fully Threaded (FT) Bar for Segment Stitching and Temporary Stressing

For segment stitching and temporary stressing operations during the construction of the metro viaduct, Dextra supplied its fully threaded (FT) bars. These bars provide secure connections between precast segments and offer flexibility for adjustments during the stitching process, ensuring that the structural alignment is perfect before the segments are permanently joined.

Unitec Couplers for Rebar Connections

In addition, Dextra supplied Unitec couplers, designed for connecting rebars at construction sites without the need for pre-threading. These couplers offer a convenient and robust solution, allowing for seamless connection of two rebars, ensuring structural continuity and strength without delays in the construction process.

Sonitec CSL Testing Tubes for Concrete Pile Integrity

In addition to supplying post-tensioning bars, Dextra also provided Sonitec Crosshole Sonic Logging (CSL) testing tubes for the integrity testing of the concrete piles supporting the metro structures. These tubes enable highly accurate non-destructive testing of the concrete, allowing engineers to detect any potential flaws or weaknesses in the piles. This testing is vital for ensuring the piles meet the necessary strength and quality standards, thereby supporting the entire metro system safely and effectively.

Marina Bay Sands, Singapore

Marina Bay Sands, Singapore

Marina Bay Sands is a spectacular resort featuring more than 2,500 rooms, a casino, numerous restaurants, and a distinctive sky garden. The project was completed and opened to the public in 2010.

Between 2007 and 2008, Dextra supplied Bartec reinforcement splicing solution and Sonitec tubes for the project.

Bartec rebar couplers were used in the foundations for diaphragm walls, addressing a dual challenge:

  • Vertical connections: Rebar couplers were used to connect D-Wall cages, enabling longer cage lengths.
  • Horizontal connections: couplers were installed on hook bars and cast in concrete as pending connections for slabs. At a later stage, second-phase rebar could be easily connected to initiate slab reinforcement.

Couplers were also used in underground tunnels and the ventilation building.

For the foundations, Dextra supplied over 100,000 linear meters of Sonitec CSL testing tubes, which are easy to install in reinforcement cages and reconnect. These tubes enhance productivity by eliminating the need for tedious and unreliable welding operations. Once installed, they remain securely in place, ensuring stability during cage lifting and handling.

Dubai Airport

Dubai Airport

Dubai Airport is the main airport in the United Arab Emirates. The famous airport, located just a few kilometers north of Dubai city, is home to the renowned Emirates airline. Dubai International Airport is the world’s #1 airport in terms of international passenger traffic.

Dextra Middle East, also based in Dubai, has been involved in numerous projects related to the construction of Dubai Airport, particularly from 2003 to 2005, during the development of Terminal 3 and the associated concourses.

For the Dubai International Project, Dextra supplied its popular Bartec coupler solution, the leading rebar coupler solution in the UAE. A total of 1.5 million couplers were used at Dubai International Airport.

Superstructure

Bartec couplers provided a technical solution for reconnecting second-phase reinforcement between columns and beams, as well as between walls and beams.

Rebar couplers were also used to create temporary openings in the reinforcement, allowing the passage of personnel and equipment.

Foundations

Bartec couplers were utilized for the foundation piles. In this application, the couplers became part of a highly integrated and automated cage manufacturing process, enabling the quick connection of large-diameter rebar and maximizing cage production output.

To complement the Bartec rebar coupler solution, Dextra Sonitec tubes were used to ensure the swift installation and reconnection of the sonic tubes along the entire length of the cages. Sonitec tubes are particularly easy to install due to their Push-Fit rubber mouth and easy to set up in the cage thanks to their welded heads. Over the years, more than 1,800,000 meters of Sonitec tubes have been installed at Dubai International Airport!

Bangkok BTS

Bangkok BTS

The Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTS) is a large urban skytrain system located in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand. The system was inaugurated in 1999.

As of 2017, the system consists of 24 elevated stations and 37 km of elevated rail organized into two main lines crossing each other at Siam central station.

The BTS system is undergoing an extension of its two main lines, with line segments and stations expected to enter into operation in 2019 and 2020.

Foundations

For various packages over the years, Dextra has supplied Sonitec tubes, which are used to test the concrete pile foundations beneath stations and tracks.

In total, Dextra supplied approximately 40,000 linear meters of Sonitec tubes, a distance actually equivalent to the BTS system’s length itself.

Pylons

For pylon vertical bar connections, Dextra offered its Bartec solution.

Bartec allows contractors to conveniently splice prefabricated rebar cages using a simple rebar coupler, allowing savings in steel compared to overlap splicing and accelerating site operations.

In Thailand, the threading operation is supported by Dextra’s factory, conveniently located in the northeast of Bangkok. Contractors receive the rebar already prepared and mounted with their rebar coupler.
