Uniqlo & Hive Indonesia Warehouse

Uniqlo & Hive Indonesia Warehouse

Indonesia’s building construction has spurred a need for rapid and efficient construction methods capable of meeting the demands of a burgeoning population. Precast construction has emerged as a solution to these challenges as it helps minimize on-site labor requirements, accelerates project timelines, and ensures consistent quality.

At the heart of successful precast construction lies the seamless connection between structural elements. Dextra supplied Groutec precast couplers for projects around the world, including Indonesia. Groutec in size 20mm were used in the Uniqlo & Hive Indonesia warehouse building project for joining precast columns, facilitating rapid and reliable assembly while ensuring structural integrity.

The couplers have minimized on-site labor requirements and accelerated project milestones. This not only translates to cost savings but also ensures timely delivery, allowing the building to fulfill its intended purpose sooner. Additionally, the couplers’ high-strength steel composition and stringent quality control measures guarantee robust connections that withstand the rigors of dynamic structural loads.

The Plum condominium | พลัมคอนโด

The Plum condominium | พลัมคอนโด

The Plum Central station is a 38-floors condominium project, made of 2 towers and located near Bang Yai elevated metro station, in the North West of Bangkok. The residential building will host 1,013 appartments.

The Phase 1 of the project (first tower) started in September 2015 and will be completed aroundMarch 2018. The fast pace construction is madepossible by the use of “fully precast” concrete techniques.

The owner of the project Pruksa is operating its own precast plant for this project.

For this project, the objective of Pruksa was to be able to quickly erect precast panels (acting as shear walls) for all levels above ground. Dextra suggested for that purpose the use of Groutec couplers.

Groutec couplers, mounted on rebar Ø25mm previously prepared with Bartec thread. The couplers, installed at the bottom of each precast element, are then cast as part of the precast wall panel element.

After lifting the element to the upper floor at site, reconnection to protruding reinforcement is achieve by injecting non-shrink mortar. It is to be noted that Dextra does not provide the mortar, which instead can be sourced locally, generating significant savings. After injecting grout, bracing around each panel can be removed after 3 days.

Jamnagar refinery expansion

Jamnagar refinery expansion

Located in the Gujarat, in western India, the Jamnagar refinery is the largest in the world in production capacity. Owned by Reliance Industries, it has been commissioned in 1998 and spreads over the 50 km2 surface area.

For the phase 3 alone, more than 305,000 tons of steel reinforcement were used: a 36 months project involving more than 100,000 engineers and construction workers.

Dextra has been involved in Jamnagar since the early days and supplied its rebar splicing solutions on the phases 1, 2 and 3 of the project.

For the phase 3 especially, 3 rebar coupler solutions were used:

Bartec solution was used for cast in situ applications, for bar-to-bar connections in foundations, pile cages, column cages. Bartec couplers were also used as a way to splice bars in heavily congested rafts and pile caps.

For the pipe-racks, which were built from precast elements, from a precast factory part of the project. Groutec couplers have been used to connect beams and columns. Positionned in the bottom elements and filled with grouts, they conveniently avoided the need of in situ wet joint.

For other applications where rebar length is too short to allow traditional overlap, Unitec couplers were used.

Forest City Johor 森林城市

Forest City Johor 森林城市

Forest City is a massive mixed-use urban development taking place in the Southern tip of Malaysia, in the Iskandar region, Johor. The development is taking place on reclaimed land just across the Johor Straight, in sight of Singapore.

The project, which will continue over the next decade, aims ultimately to create 300,000 residential units, hosting as many as 700,000 people, as well as numerous commercial buildings.

The Forest City project is expected to fuel the region economy, as well as Singapore, as light rail and road links will ultimately make the connection across the strait with the island state.

Dextra has been involved since the early phases of the project for the supply of its Groutec S precast solution. Groutec allow the swift connection of precast columns and panels, without the need of in situ joints, speeding up the construction project. For the Forest City Project, Groutec S couplers (compact models) were used to connect the panels making the residential towers shear walls.

The Forest City project is supported by the installation at site of several sets of Bartec threading equipment, which prepare the bars with threads in order to perform the connection with the top part of the Groutec sleeve. Dextra aftersales team also provided training and support in order to guarantee high production levels during all the project duration.

Emirates’ Bustanica Vertical Farm

The World’s Largest Vertical Farm

Emirates’ Bustanica Vertical Farm is the world’s largest vertical farm, a sprawling indoor farming facility spanning an impressive 330,000 square feet. This state-of-the-art facility plays a crucial role in providing fresh, locally sourced in-flight food for Emirates and several other airlines operating at Dubai International Airport. At the core of this groundbreaking project lies meticulous engineering, and one crucial component that contributes to its success is the use of Dextra Groutec couplers for the precast shear wall module connections.

This vertical farm employs cutting-edge technology to cultivate a diverse range of crops in a controlled environment. By stacking layers of crops vertically, the facility maximizes space utilization while minimizing resource consumption. The result is a sustainable and efficient system that produces fresh, high-quality produce year-round, regardless of external climatic conditions.

The Role of Dextra Groutec Couplers

In any construction project, the choice of materials and components is critical to ensuring structural integrity and long-term durability. In the case of the world’s largest vertical farm, the engineers faced the challenge of connecting precast shear wall modules securely. The solution came in the form of Groutec L couplers with a diameter of 25mm.

Groutec couplers are renowned for their reliability and strength in connecting precast concrete elements. These couplers provide a robust and efficient means of joining precast concrete components, ensuring the structural stability of the entire facility. The 25mm diameter was carefully selected to meet the specific requirements of the shear wall modules, offering a seamless connection that enhances the overall resilience of the vertical farm.

The Groutec couplers not only facilitate the structural integrity of the vertical farm but also align with the project’s commitment to sustainability. The durability and reliability of these couplers ensure that the connections withstand the test of time, supporting the longevity of the facility and its contribution to sustainable agriculture.
