São Paulo Arena Corinthians
The São Paulo Arena Corinthians is a football and multipurpose stadium that was built between 2011 and 2013 in preparation for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
The stadium has a capacity of 49,000 people, making it the fifth-largest stadium in Brazil in terms of capacity.
For the construction of the stadium, 80% of the structural elements were made using precast techniques, with 40% of them produced directly at the precast plant set up on-site.
For this project, Dextra delivered its Rolltec rebar coupler solution to Odebrecht, the main contractor.
On the São Paulo Arena Corinthians project, Rolltec rebar couplers were used inside the precast elements to provide connections between slabs, beams, and columns.
To allow the use of a coupler in the precast element, a rebar with an A-type thread is cast into the precast element, with its thread being protected by a pocket former.
Once set in its final location, the pocket former is removed, and the space around the thread allows for a Rolltec coupler to be conveniently screwed onto the opposing rebar (B-type thread). More than 45,000 Rolltec couplers were used for the rebar connections at Arena Corinthians.
The coupler solution was supported by a Rolltec rebar preparation machine, installed on-site, and the Dextra team of engineers was in charge of training operators and implementing preventive maintenance to ensure the equipment was used at its maximum capacity.
