Dextra’s Quarterly Newsletter: Connection #21

A grand return to nuclear energy in UK

The HPC Project is located in Somerset, South West England, and will consist of two nuclear reactors capable of generating 3.2GW of low-carbon electricity.

The new power station is being constructed in the same area as the existing Hinkley Point A and B stations. The former has ceased operation for quite some time, while the latter is scheduled to begin decommissioning in 2023.

Dextra was entrusted with the supply of mechanical splices for concrete reinforcement for parts of HPC, particularly the reactor’s aircraft impact protective shell.

Прогнозируется, что для строительства HPC потребуется более миллиона муфт Griptec.

Griptec разработан с учетом самых строгих проектных спецификаций и зарекомендовал себя как популярная система для атомных электростанций EPR, которая использовалась при строительстве электростанций Фламанвиль-3, Тайшань-1 и Тайшань-2.

Headed Bar calculation tool released!

We are pleased to announce the release of the Headed Bar Calculation Tool, available for Bartec/Fortec, Griptec and Rolltec product ranges.

This document will allow designers to easily calculate the minimum edge and spacing requirements, confinement reinforcement and if necessary, rebar bond contribution for Dextra headed bars.

The new release is complementary to the Arup/Dextra step by step design guide, which is intended as a non-contradictory supplement to Eurocode 2.

The seismic performance of Dextra couplers

Ductility is a key performance characteristic for concrete reinforcement used in seismic design.

Dextra collaborated with Imperial College London for the seismic performance tests of reinforced concrete beam-column using 16mm and 20mm Bartec/Fortec and Griptec mechanical splices.

As a result, Bartec/Fortec and Griptec coupler systems provided ductility that allowed the development of ultimate rotation levels that are likely to be adequate for typical seismic design situations.
