The Nhat Tan Bridge is an impressive cable-stayed bridge spanning the Red River, located north of Hanoi. The total length of the project is 8.9 km, including the 3.75 km main bridge.

The bridge serves as a new gateway to Hanoi, significantly reducing travel time to Noi Bai International Airport, the second busiest airport in Vietnam by passenger volume.

The bridge was inaugurated by the Ministry of Transport of Vietnam and opened to the public on January 4, 2015. It has since been renamed the “Vietnam – Japan Friendship Bridge.”

Dextra has been involved in the Nhat Tan Bridge since the early stages of the project, supplying the widely used Bartec® rebar couplers, the leading rebar splicing solution in Vietnam. Bartec® connections were used in various parts of the project, including approaches, foundation piles, pile caps, and bridge segments.

Bartec® couplers offer a versatile rebar splicing solution, as the same standard coupler can be used for both standard connections (where the rebar rotates into the coupler) and position connections (where only the coupler rotates, useful when rebar rotation is not possible). Dextra supplied more than 130,000 connections in total for this project, enabling the lifting of heavy elements.

For the temporary operations of lifting and securing the precast girder segments, Dextra also supplied 36 tons of high-tensile PT bars.

Two IFC (International Finance Centre), Hong Kong

Two IFC (International Finance Centre), Hong Kong

Two IFC is a landmark skyscraper in Hong Kong, located in West Kowloon. The 412-meter-high commercial building features 88 floors and is the second tallest building in Hong Kong, following the ICC Tower.

Vertical reinforcement is a crucial structural feature for buildings of this height. Consultant ARUP and contractors E-Man-Sanfield JV selected Dextra for the splicing of reinforcement throughout the building.

For this project, Dextra supplied more than 200,000 Bartec rebar couplers, which were primarily used for vertical connections, especially in all columns.

Additionally, rebar couplers provided connection points for second-phase rebar reconnection, typically between columns and slabs and columns and beams. To achieve this, rebar couplers were aligned horizontally and cast in concrete, allowing for reconnection at a later stage by screwing in the second-phase rebar.

Bartec is the preferred reinforcement splicing solution for contractors in Hong Kong, as it is recommended in the Hong Kong Building Material List. Dextra also operates its own rebar threading workshop in Hong Kong, providing rebar preparation services for its customers.

King Abdullah Financial District, Saudi Arabia

King Abdullah Financial District, Saudi Arabia

The King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) is a multipurpose business and residential complex located in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The district consists of more than 50 towers and is expected to accommodate a working population of around 12,000 people.

Dextra Middle East, based in Dubai, has been involved since 2009 in supplying several building packages to Saudi Bin Ladin Group, the main contractor for the project.

Foundation Piles

To provide vertical connections in foundation piles, Dextra supplied its popular Bartec rebar coupler solution—the #1 rebar solução de emenda in the Middle East—through its fabrication partners.

In addition to Bartec couplers, Dextra also supplied Unitec couplers, which were used for the continuation of bars protruding from the foundation piles. Unitec offers a flexible solution for contractors, as it does not require prior bar-end preparation. It only requires an impact wrench, making it easy to operate, especially on remote construction sites.

Jangada e Colunas

Bartec couplers were also used for horizontal connections in the thick foundation rafts and vertical connections in the protruding columns.

Core Wall-to-Beam Formulários

In the building superstructure, Dextra Bartec couplers were used to provide horizontal connections from the core wall, enabling the insertion of second-phase starter bars needed to create the beam reforço.

Ponte Nova Champlain

Ponte Nova Champlain

The New Champlain Bridge is a 3 km-long bridge spanning the Saint Lawrence River at the southeastern entrance of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. As one of the busiest bridges in Canada, it plays a crucial economic role for the city, serving as a key route to the United States, located 60 km south.

Replacing the Older Champlain Bridge

The New Champlain Bridge is replacing the existing Champlain Bridge, which was commissioned in June 1962. The older structure began showing signs of corrosion in 1994. After several temporary safety measures were implemented to keep the bridge operational, a replacement project was initiated in 2007. For a time, both bridges will stand side by side until the older structure is fully dismantled, with most of its materials planned for recycling.

A Focus on Corrosion Resistance

The New Champlain Bridge is designed to last at least 125 years and accommodate 50 million vehicle crossings per year. Given the corrosive environment caused by frequent road de-icing, corrosion resistance was a top priority. Duplex stainless steel rebar was installed in critical areas to enhance durability.

For this project, Dextra recommended using Duplex Stainless Steel Rolltec couplers and anchors. This specialized version of our Rolltec® system replaces standard couplers and anchors with an improved duplex steel alternative, offering superior corrosion resistance.

The Rolltec® solution is well-suited to the Canadian market and is approved by the Quebec Ministry of Transport. With a single-operator threading machine and 30-second threading cycles, it provides high productivity, making it ideal for high-labor-cost markets like Canada.

More than 10,000 Stainless Rolltec® couplers were supplied for this project, primarily for bridge spans. These couplers were used to splice large-diameter reinforcement bars, ranging from 35M (#11) to 55M (#18)—the largest size available in our Rolltec® range.

Additionally, about 10,000 Rolltec® stainless steel end anchors were delivered for sizes up to 55M (#18). Rolltec® Headed Bars use the same threading system as the couplers, simplifying production and installation.
