Jeddah Tower
Jeddah Tower (previously known as Kingdom Tower) is a landmark skyscraper located along the Red Sea in the North of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The commercial building is designed to pass for the first time the 1-km mark with a total expected height of 1,008 meters, making it the tallest building in the world.
Jeddah Tower will ultimately host a 200-room Four Seasons hotel, serviced apartments, several floors of offices and an observatory. A total of 59 elevators will allow visitors to move between floors.
The tower structure has been engineered by consulting firm Thornton Tomasetti and is built by contractor Saudi Bin Laden, to which Dextra is delivering through the support of its local partner Bahra Steel.
Dextra is proud to deliver 100% of the rebar couplers on the structure, both in the foundations and the superstructure.
Two main types of rebar couplers are used on the structure:
- For all foundation, columns and vertical connection, standard Bartec couplers are used. These allow fast connection of prefabricated cages.
- For slab connections, special bridging couplers are also used in order to connect each leg of the U-shape rebar to a column.
The tower is still under construction, with expected completion around 2019.
