Icon Siam complex | ไอคอนสยาม

Icon Siam complex, located on the right bank of the Chao Phraya river in the West of Bangkok, is a new multipurpose commercial/residential complex consisting of two highrise buildings and a shopping mall. This new massive project aims to give back its glamour to the banks of the Chao Praya river.

The two towers are expected to reach 280m (SuperLux Tower) and 315m (Magnolia Tower) respectively. The Magnolia Tower will thus be slightly taller than the MahaNakhon Tower, Bangkok’s tallest building since 2015.

Dextra is supplying Thai-Obayashi (contractor of the shopping mall structure) and Italian-Thai (contractor of both towers) with its Bartec rebar splicing solution.

Dextra engineers performed operator trainings and do preventive maintenance directly on site to guarantee maximum output in thread production.

In total, more than 800,000 Bartec rebar couplers and 20,000 Bartec Headed Bars are being used in foundations and superstructure in the following applications:

L-shaped dowel bars (wall-slab connections)

This is a typical application used in foundation D-Walls to avoid protruding rebar. it is also used in the superstructure to allow the sliding formwork to climb up without any disturbance

Substitution of hooked bars with end anchors

When the wall reinforcement is especially congested, the use of Headed Bars (also called end anchors) allows to anchor the reinforcement in the wall without the need to produce hooks.

Double-ended connection in shear-walls

This solution allows to create a continuity inside the column or wall by bridging two horizontal slabs or beams.

Welded couplers for composite structures

Sometimes it is necessary to start reinforcement from the steel structure. In that case, weldable couplers are the ideal solution: Made of a low-carbon steel, they can be welded easily and allow connection to a threaded rebar.

Landmark 81, Ho Chi Minh City

Landmark 81, Ho Chi Minh City

Landmark 81 is a new highrise tower project located on the bank of the Saigon river in Ho Chi Minh City. The project is owned by Vietnamese company Vingroup.

The tower, whose construction started end of 2014, is expected to reach the height of 462 meters, a new height record in Vietnam. Landmark 81 will the 11th tallest tower building in the world.

For this project, Dextra is supplying its renowned
Bartec solution to contractor Coteccons. Bartec solution has been approved by ARUP, owner’s representative consultant, and MACE International, structural consultant.

In total, 250,000 Bartec couplers will be used for vertical rebar connection in the corewall and columns as well as for horitonzal applications such as corewall-to-beam and corewall-to-slab connections.

The use of rebar couplers allows the climbing ormwork to move its way up unencumbered as well as connect slabs starting bars in a very productive manner. Those technologies combined with state-of-the-art concrete monitoring allow very fast construction cycles as short as 35 hours per floor.

For composite applications (steel columns to beams), Dextra also supplied 20,000 weldables couplers.

The fast-paced construction site is supported by three sets of Dextra Bartec equipment, installed directly on site. The equipment is maintained by Dextra and operated by Dextra’s distributor in Vietnam, Lotus Greentech.

Concrete works were completed ahead of schedule early 2018.

The Plum condominium | พลัมคอนโด

The Plum condominium | พลัมคอนโด

The Plum Central station is a 38-floors condominium project, made of 2 towers and located near Bang Yai elevated metro station, in the North West of Bangkok. The residential building will host 1,013 appartments.

The Phase 1 of the project (first tower) started in September 2015 and will be completed aroundMarch 2018. The fast pace construction is madepossible by the use of “fully precast” concrete techniques.

The owner of the project Pruksa is operating its own precast plant for this project.

For this project, the objective of Pruksa was to be able to quickly erect precast panels (acting as shear walls) for all levels above ground. Dextra suggested for that purpose the use of Groutec couplers.

Groutec couplers, mounted on rebar Ø25mm previously prepared with Bartec thread. The couplers, installed at the bottom of each precast element, are then cast as part of the precast wall panel element.

After lifting the element to the upper floor at site, reconnection to protruding reinforcement is achieve by injecting non-shrink mortar. It is to be noted that Dextra does not provide the mortar, which instead can be sourced locally, generating significant savings. After injecting grout, bracing around each panel can be removed after 3 days.

National Bank of Kuwait – New Headquarter

National Bank of Kuwait – New Headquarter

The new headquarters building of the National Bank of Kuwait is a 300m-tall tower that covers a total floor area of 127,000m2 with a design concept inspired by pearl shells and located in the heart of Kuwait City’s financial district.

The main construction comprises composite concrete and steel, while the cladding on the fins and glass façades is predominantly glass-reinforced concrete.

Dextra took part in reinforcing the concrete structure of the building by providing these solutions:

  • 100,000 Bartec couplers were installed for columns reinforcement, construction joints in raft and slab/beam to core wall connections.
  • 35,000 headed bars act as shear studs in raft.
  • 1,500 Unitec bolted couplers were used to extend existing reinforcing bars that were either not threaded or too short for lapping. It is a convenient solution to connect rebars by using a simple pneumatic wrench at the construction site, without the need of any rebar preparation.
