Santo Antônio Hydroelectric

Santo Antônio Hydroelectric

Santo Antônio Dam is a hydroelectric dam set up on the Mareira River, in the state of Rondônia, Brazil. The dam is powered by 50 turbines for a total capacity of 3,580 MW.

For this major dam project, Dextra Do Brasil delivered to contractors Odebrecht & Andrade Gutierrezits its Rolltec rebar coupler solution.

Rolltec is the most popular rebar slicing solution in Brazil, providing a competitive alternative to lap splices. The rebar preparation is supported by a unique light equipment, operated by a single operator. The Rolltec machine is relatively easy to transport and convenient to install even on most remote locations such as dam construction sites.

On the Santo Antonio dam, rebar coupler were used to reconnect bent rebar. To do so, a straight bar is previously threaded (A/B/C thread length). The bar is then bent according to project requirements.

If needed, to protect the thread coupler can be temporarily set up onto the rebar as well.

Please consult us for more technical information about coupler applications on bent bars.

Bakheng Water Treatment Plant

Bakheng Water Treatment Plant

The Bakheng Water Treatment Plant is located in the Bakheng district of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The plant will be built to improve the water supply in this area and eventually give a 60 percent increase in drinking water delivery capacity due to substantial urban expansion.

A drinking water treatment plant and transfer pipelines are part of the project. The supply system will eventually provide drinking water to more than 1.5 million residents in Phnom Penh’s north-east.

By the end of Phase 1, the plant should be operational to provide drinking water to the more than 750,000 inhabitants of the area. By the end of Phase 2, its capacity will be doubled.

The project includes earthworks and soil treatment, civil engineering design of the structures, equipment installation, power supply to the equipment, and system automation.

Dextra supplied Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) rebars which were installed in bored piles instead of reinforcement of traditional steel rebars to facilitate the TMB breakthrough in the underground waterway tunnel.

Karimun Yard

Karimun Yard

The Karimun Yard located on the small island of Karimun (pop. 200,000), less than 25km away from the island of Batam (Indonesia) and Singapore. The Karimun Yard, operated by Saipem offers more than 780,000 sqm* of fabrication areas with an annual production of 50,000 tons.

Between 2009 and 2010 Dextra has manufactured and supplied for Saipem large >Marine Tie Bars, which were incorporated into the main quay wall. In 2008, Dextra also supplied the Marine Tie Bars and >Waling Beams connecting the sheet pile walls of the service jetty

For the main yard, Dextra supplied its Marine Tie Bars Grade 700, which is the highest in the range. Higher tie bars grades allow to high performance while limiting the size and weight of the bars, making them easier to transport and install. Grade 700 can also be used to optimize design, for example by spreading the bars further away from each other, hence reducing the total number of bars on the project.

To connect the bars to the walls, ball cages were used. Used together with a bearing plate embedded in wall, ball cages allow a multidirectional adjustment angle of 10°. To splice bar segments, couplers were also used.

Reventazón Hydroelectric Dam

Reventazón Hydroelectric Dam

Reventazón Dam is a concrete-face rock-fill dam set up on the Reventazón River, in the Limon province of Costa Rica. The dam, inaugurated end of 2016, is the largest power station in the country with a total power capacity of 305MW. The project has become a model in term of environmental integration, featuring passages for animals.

For this major dam project, Dextra Latin America continuously delivered and supported contractor ICE from 2010 to 2016. Dextra supplied its Rolltec rebar splicing solution, couplers and machine. Rolltec is the most popular rebar slicing solution in Latin America, providing a competitive alternative to lap splices.

The rebar preparation is supported by a unique light equipment, operated by a single operator. The Rolltec machine is relatively easy to transport and convenient to install even on most remote locations such as dam construction sites.

Rolltec splices were used inside the water tunnels, installed on bent rebar. For that kind of application, the straight bar has to be threaded, then bended. Hyosung LPG Cavern

Hyosung LPG Cavern

This multi-phase project handled by Hyosung Group will include a propane dehydrogenation (PDH) production plant, a polypropylene (PP) plant, a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) storage tank, and warehouses for LPG and petrochemical products.

The whole complex will cover 60 hectares of the Cai Mep Industrial Zone in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, located near Ho Chi Minh City.

Dextra is supporting the construction of the 240,000-ton LPG underground storage facility by supplying 30,000 units of glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) rock bolts to consolidate the cavern rock face around the 150m deep excavation area.

Injecting sea water inside the rocks around the cavern will create a water curtain that will effectively prevent any oil leakage: in this high corrosive environment, GFRP is the ideal solution.

Dextra GFRP Rock Bolts are cuttable mining anchors based on fully threaded GFRP tendons. The bolts are available in 7 diameters from 20mm to 40mm, delivered with GFRP plate and nuts. Due to GFRP’s lightweight nature, it is easy to handle, transport and installation inside the tunnel.

The facilities are expected to begin commercial operation in 2020.
