Jizan Refinery Terminal

Jizan Refinery Terminal

Jizan Refinery & Terminal is an oil megaproject built for Saudi Aramco in the Jizan Economic Area, located on the Red Sea, West coast of Saudi Arabia.

For this project, Dextra engineered and manufactured marine tie rods systems used for the construction of quays of the marine terminal.

In total, Dextra delivered 412 tie rod sets in size M98. The grade 500 rods were connected to combi walls on both side thanks to Dextra designed captive nuts accessories, cast in the concrete piles.Captive Nuts allow a convenient angle of adjustment of 5° in all directions.

The assemblies, as long as 36 meters, were split into three main segments and reconnected thanks to couplers and hinge-couplers.

Al-Zour LNG Import Terminal

Al-Zour LNG Import Terminal

The Al-Zour LNG Import Terminal is the world’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal, located 90 kilometers southeast of Kuwait’s capital. The project included the construction of a re-gasification facility, eight LNG storage tanks with a capacity of 225,000m³ each, marine facilities including two marine jetties, and berthing facilities for loading, and other components such as 14 HP pumps, boil-off gas (BOG) and flare facilities.

The facility was expected to produce approximately 22 million metric tonnes (MMT) of natural gas a year and would have a storage capacity of 1.8 million m³ of LNG. The liquefaction capacity of the terminal would be 30 billion cubic metres a day (bcm/d).

Dextra supplied 202 tons of grade 700 marine tie bars and 166 tons of wailing beams for the construction of marine facilities of this project. Tie bars were used as anchors between sheet piles or concrete walls.

The import terminal was completed in November 2021 and it reached full operations in February 2022. The LNG terminal is providing the Middle East country with a stable gas network in the long run, allowing it to respond to the rising call for energy diversification and sustainable energy.

Maitree Super Thermal Power Project

Maitree Super Thermal Power Project

Maitree Super Thermal Power Project is a 2×660 MW coal-fired power station project being developed by the Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company (BIFPCL), a 50-50 joint project of the governments of Bangladesh and India. The power station will be located in Rampal, Bangladesh.

For this project, Dextra has supplied more than 400 assemblies of grade 700 Marine Tie Bar systems to connect piles and waling beams for a 1.2km long jetty of the coal power plant.

Dextra’s Marine Tie Bar systems consist of steel bars and anchorage accessories that act as an anchorage to tie back sea walls to anchor walls.

Bars are available in three carbon steel grades, up to a yield stress of 700Mpa and can be chosen among a selection of 24 bar diameters, up to M162, allowing a perfect match to the performance requirements.

In addition, standard range of anchorage components allow easy installation and connection to all kinds of marine walls.

The construction of the Maitree Super Thermal Power started in 2017 and is planned to be finalized by 2022.

Karimun Yard

Karimun Yard

The Karimun Yard located on the small island of Karimun (pop. 200,000), less than 25km away from the island of Batam (Indonesia) and Singapore. The Karimun Yard, operated by Saipem offers more than 780,000 sqm* of fabrication areas with an annual production of 50,000 tons.

Between 2009 and 2010 Dextra has manufactured and supplied for Saipem large >Marine Tie Bars, which were incorporated into the main quay wall. In 2008, Dextra also supplied the Marine Tie Bars and >Waling Beams connecting the sheet pile walls of the service jetty

For the main yard, Dextra supplied its Marine Tie Bars Grade 700, which is the highest in the range. Higher tie bars grades allow to high performance while limiting the size and weight of the bars, making them easier to transport and install. Grade 700 can also be used to optimize design, for example by spreading the bars further away from each other, hence reducing the total number of bars on the project.

To connect the bars to the walls, ball cages were used. Used together with a bearing plate embedded in wall, ball cages allow a multidirectional adjustment angle of 10°. To splice bar segments, couplers were also used.

Hyosung LPG Cavern

Hyosung LPG Cavern

This multi-phase project handled by Hyosung Group will include a propane dehydrogenation (PDH) production plant, a polypropylene (PP) plant, a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) storage tank, and warehouses for LPG and petrochemical products.

The whole complex will cover 60 hectares of the Cai Mep Industrial Zone in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, located near Ho Chi Minh City.

Dextra is supporting the construction of the 240,000-ton LPG underground storage facility by supplying 30,000 units of glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) rock bolts to consolidate the cavern rock face around the 150m deep excavation area.

Injecting sea water inside the rocks around the cavern will create a water curtain that will effectively prevent any oil leakage: in this high corrosive environment, GFRP is the ideal solution.

Dextra GFRP Rock Bolts are cuttable mining anchors based on fully threaded GFRP tendons. The bolts are available in 7 diameters from 20mm to 40mm, delivered with GFRP plate and nuts. Due to GFRP’s lightweight nature, it is easy to handle, transport and installation inside the tunnel.

The facilities are expected to begin commercial operation in 2020.

Visakh Refinery Modernisation

Visakh Refinery Modernisation

Visakh Refinery Modernisation Project is a brownfield expansion of the Visakh refinery located in Visakhapatnam, India.

The project will expand the refining capacity from 8.3MMTPA (millions of metric tonnes per annum) to 15MMTPA, while enabling the production and distribution of the fuels that comply with Bharat Stage-VI, a new emission standard instituted by the Government of India.

Dextra was involved in the expansion by supplying Unitec bolted couplers for precast beam connections.

Unitec is a bolted splicing system designed for the connection of two rebars with no thread: its screws will lock both bar ends and complete the connection.

The Visakh Refinery Modernisation project is scheduled for completion in 2020.
