ICONSIAM, Thailand

ICONSIAM, Thailand

ICONSIAM, located on the right bank of the Chao Phraya River in western Bangkok, is a multipurpose commercial and residential complex consisting of two high-rise buildings and a shopping mall. This massive development aims to restore the glamour of the Chao Phraya River’s waterfront.

The two towers are expected to reach heights of 280 meters (SuperLux Tower) and 315 meters (Magnolia Tower), respectively. Upon completion, Magnolia Tower will surpass King Power Mahanakhon Tower, which has been Thailand’s tallest building since 2015.

Dextra is supplying Thai-Obayashi (the contractor for the shopping mall structure) and Italian-Thai (the contractor for both towers) with its Bartec rebar splicing solution.

To ensure maximum efficiency in thread production, Dextra engineers have conducted operator training and provided on-site preventive maintenance.

In total, more than 800,000 Bartec rebar couplers and 20,000 Headed Bars are being used in the foundations and superstructure for the following applications:

L-shaped dowel bars (wall-slab connections)

This is a typical application used in foundation diaphragm walls (D-Walls) to avoid protruding rebar. It is also used in the superstructure, allowing the sliding formwork to climb without obstruction.

Substitution of hooked bars with Headed Bars

When the wall reinforcement is especially congested, the use of Headed Bars (also called end anchors) allows for anchoring the reinforcement in the wall without the need for hooks.

Double-ended connection in shear-walls

This solution allows to create a continuity inside the column or wall by bridging two horizontal slabs or beams.

Welded couplers for composite structures

Sometimes, it is necessary to start reinforcement from the steel structure. In such cases, weldable couplers are the ideal solution. Made of low-carbon steel, they can be easily welded and allow connection to a threaded rebar.

Landmark 81, Vietnam

Landmark 81, Vietnam

Landmark 81 is a high-rise tower project located on the banks of the Saigon River in Ho Chi Minh City. The project is owned by the Vietnamese company Vingroup.

Construction of the tower began at the end of 2014, and it reaches a height of 470 meters to tip, setting a new height record in Vietnam. Landmark 81 is the 17th tallest tower in the world.

For this project, Dextra is supplying its renowned Bartec solution to the contractor Coteccons. The Bartec solution has been approved by ARUP, the owner’s representative consultant, and MACE International, the structural consultant.

In total, 250,000 Bartec couplers will be used for vertical rebar connections in the core wall and columns, as well as for horizontal applications such as core wall-to-beam and core wall-to-slab connections.

The use of rebar couplers allows the climbing formwork to progress unencumbered, while also enabling efficient connection of slab starter bars. These technologies, combined with state-of-the-art concrete monitoring, facilitate extremely fast construction cycles—as short as 35 hours per floor.

For composite applications (steel columns to beams), Dextra has also supplied 20,000 weldable couplers.

The fast-paced construction site is supported by three sets of Dextra Bartec bar-end preparation equipment, installed directly on site. The equipment is maintained by Dextra and operated by Dextra’s distributor in Vietnam, Lotus Greentech.

Plum Condo Bangyai Station, Thailand

Plum Condo Bangyai Station, Thailand

Plum Condo Bangyai Station is a 38-story condominium project consisting of two towers, located near Bangyai elevated metro station in the northwest of Bangkok. The residential building will house 1,013 apartments.

Phase 1 of the project (the first tower) began in September 2015 and is expected to be completed around March 2018. The fast-paced construction is made possible by the use of fully precast concrete techniques.

The project owner, Pruksa, is operating its own precast plant specifically for this development.

For this project, Pruksa aimed to quickly erect precast panels (serving as shear walls) for all levels above ground. To meet this requirement, Dextra recommended the use of Groutec couplers.

Groutec couplers were mounted on Ø25mm rebars, which had been pre-threaded using the Bartec system. The couplers, installed at the bottom of each precast element, were then cast as part of the precast wall panel.

After lifting the element to the upper floor on-site, reconnection to the protruding reinforcement was achieved by injecting non-shrink mortar. It is important to note that Dextra does not supply the mortar; instead, it can be sourced locally, generating significant cost savings. Once the grout is injected, bracing around each panel can be removed after three days.

ONE Limassol Tower, Cyprus

ONE Limassol Tower, Cyprus

ONE Limassol Tower is a commercial building and a new landmark in Limassol, Cyprus. The project aims to position the island in the international luxury property market, enhancing its attractiveness for foreign investment by offering world-class residences, amenities, and services. This will also boost Cyprus’ economy while increasing local employment opportunities.

At 170 meters tall, with a total of 33 storeys, ONE Limassol Tower is the tallest seafront residential project in Europe. The building will feature 83 luxurious apartments, including a three-storey penthouse.

To reinforce this landmark building, Dextra supplied its rebar couplers and bar-end preparation machine sets to the contractor J&P and ACC JV, a joint venture between Joannou & Paraskevaides Group (J&P) and Arabian Construction Company (ACC).

More than 60,000 Bartec couplers were used for rebar splicing in the rafts and vertical structural elements of the building.

National Bank of Kuwait – New Headquarter, Kuwait

National Bank of Kuwait – New Headquarter, Kuwait

The new headquarters building of the National Bank of Kuwait is a 300m-tall tower with a total floor area of 127,000m². Its design, inspired by pearl shells, is located in the heart of Kuwait City’s financial district.

The main structure consists of composite concrete and steel, while the cladding on the fins and façades is predominantly glass-reinforced concrete.

Dextra contributed to reinforcing the building’s concrete structure by providing the following solutions:

  • 100,000 Bartec couplers were installed for column reinforcement, construction joints in the raft, and slab/beam-to-core wall connections.
  • 35,000 headed bars acted as shear studs in the raft.
  • 1,500 Unitec bolted couplers were used to extend existing reinforcing bars that were either unthreaded or too short for lapping. This convenient solution allows for rebar connections using a simple pneumatic wrench on-site, eliminating the need for rebar preparation.
