Parque da Cidade, Brazil

Parque da Cidade, Brazil

Parque da Cidade is a multi-tower, multi-purpose green building complex located in the south of São Paulo. The project features five corporate office towers, a hotel, residential buildings, and a shopping mall.

For this project, Dextra supplied its Rolltec rebar coupler solution to contractor Odebrecht.

Rolltec is the most popular rebar splicing solution in Brazil, offering a competitive alternative to lap splices and, more importantly, enabling advanced applications that simplify project management and operations.

At Parque da Cidade, Rolltec rebar couplers were used to connect columns and beams. The solution was supported by Rolltec bar-end preparation equipment installed on-site and maintained by Dextra’s local engineers.

For this application, rebar couplers were aligned horizontally within the column reinforcement at each floor and cast into concrete. Dextra provided its couplers with thread protection caps to prevent liquid concrete from leaking into the couplers.

At a later stage of the project, continuation bars were directly connected into the couplers, providing convenient starter bars for beam or slab reinforcement.

Additionally, Dextra supplied its Unitec solution for Parque da Cidade. Unitec is a bolted coupler that does not require any rebar preparation. It was used to connect rebars protruding from two precast elements.

Car Servicing Building on Kung Chong Road, Singapore

Car Servicing Building on Kung Chong Road, Singapore

The Car Servicing Building at 2 Kung Chong Road in Singapore is a mixed-use, 7-story facility featuring a basement car park, a car servicing center, and office space. The building will be occupied by the Automobile Association of Singapore.

This project, built by Zhengda Corporation Pte Ltd, utilizes precast technology to achieve faster construction cycles. The precast elements were produced by the Malaysian precaster Eastern Pretech.

For this project, Dextra supplied approximately 6,000 Groutec couplers to the precaster, which were embedded into shear walls and column elements.

The precast elements were then transported to the site and reconnected to protruding reinforcement by injecting non-shrink grouting mortar. Bracing around the precast elements is typically removed within three days of the grout injection, significantly reducing assembly time.

BITEC Expansion, Thailand

BITEC Expansion, Thailand

BITEC, the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre, is a large exhibition venue located east of Bangkok in the Bang Na district.

Dextra was involved in the Phase 2 expansion of the exhibition center, which took place between 2014 and 2016. The expansion project added three exhibition halls, increasing the exhibition space by more than 32,000 sqm under a ceiling height of 25 meters.

Dextra worked together with contractor Italian-Thai to engineer and supply long tension rod systems that support the roof structure above the new BITEC exhibition halls.

In total, Dextra delivered 298 assemblies in various diameters, each composed of multiple rods connected with couplers and turnbuckles and anchored to the structure with fork ends. In several cases, the total assembly length exceeded 50 meters (with an average of 33 meters).

Delivery took place at the end of 2015, and installation was completed by mid-2016. Bangkokians can still easily admire the tension rod roofing structure when stopping at BTS Bearing station or driving along the Bang Na-Trat highway.

For such large structures, tension rods offer a number of advantages compared to other “tensioning” solutions: lower elongation under loads, lower post tensioning forces required, better resistance to corrosion, reduced long terms relaxation and reduced maintenance and surveillance costs.

Moreover, they are easily to install thanks to their fork ends and offer a very aesthetic roofing structure.

Nathani Heights, India

Nathani Heights, India

Nathani Heights is a 72-story skyscraper in Mumbai. With a total height of 262 meters, it is among the 30 tallest buildings in the city. Construction began in 2012 and was completed in 2018.

For this project, Dextra supplied its renowned Bartec rebar coupler solution. Bartec is the leading rebar coupler solution in India, meeting all technical requirements, including those for seismic areas.

As with other high-rise buildings, rebar couplers were used for large-diameter rebar connections in vertical applications such as columns and core walls (bar-to-bar vertical connections).

Rebar couplers were also used for slab connections. In this case, the coupler was pre-positioned flush with the formwork, allowing the climbing formwork to progress upwards. After casting, a threaded rebar was simply screwed into the coupler to create the starter bar.

Louvre Abu Dhabi Museum, UAE

Louvre Abu Dhabi Museum, UAE

Louvre Abu Dhabi is an innovative art and civilization museum located north of Abu Dhabi city, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. It is the largest museum in the Arabian Peninsula, with a total area of 24,000 square meters. Louvre Abu Dhabi officially opened its doors on November 11, 2017.

For this project, Dextra was involved in concrete works between 2013 and 2014, supplying its Bartec rebar coupler solution to Arabtec for all rebar connections in the raft and columns. Couplers were also used to create temporary openings in the reinforcement structure, allowing the passage of workers and equipment. A total of 110,000 Bartec rebar couplers were supplied for this project.

The Bartec solution is approved by the Dubai Central Laboratory (DCL), making its use possible in the UAE. All threading services to prepare the rebar used at Louvre Abu Dhabi were performed by Dextra’s network of distributors.

The Great Mosque of Algiers, Algeria

The Great Mosque of Algiers, Algeria

The new Djamaa El Djazair Mosque in Algiers is a major construction project located in the eastern part of Algeria’s capital. It will feature the world’s tallest minaret, standing at 265 meters. Additionally, the vast complex will accommodate up to 120,000 worshippers.

For the main mosque building, Dextra supplied its Tension Rod Systems to China State Construction Engineering Corporation, the project’s main contractor. In total, more than 800 structural tension rod assemblies, with diameters ranging from M16 to M56, are being used for the cross-bracing of the domed prayer room’s roofing structure.

Each tension rod is painted white to match the mosque’s interior design. Bracing discs (top left picture) contribute to the architectural aesthetics of the structure.

For the construction of the building and minaret, Dextra also supplied its popular Bartec coupler solution, which is available in Algeria through our network of distributors. For more information, consult our Paris office.

Maryah Plaza, UAE

Maryah Plaza, UAE

Maryah Plaza is a commercial mixed-use development located on Al Maryah Island, designated to become the Emirates’ new business and lifestyle destination. The four water-adjacent towers comprise residential apartments, a 5-star hotel, and retail outlets. The project aims to create an open public space where users can walk freely across the development.

Dextra Compression Struts are used in one of the four towers of Maryah Plaza. The four sets of Compression Struts delivered by Dextra elegantly fit into the tower’s lobby floors, opening them up for waterfront views. Compression Struts support heavy structures; in this project, they serve as cross-bracing elements, enhancing the tower’s ability to withstand seismic loads.

Four sets of 60 cm-diameter Compression Struts were used in the project. These are the largest diameter and highest-performing Compression Struts Dextra has ever built. Thanks to a streamlined design and a convenient pin-and-fork locking feature, the sets were assembled on-site in just a week.

The Compression Strut is a circular hollow-section bar capped at both ends with threaded forks. This threaded fork design allows for easy assembly, enabling workers to put the struts together on-site in just minutes.

Business Garden Bucharest, Romania

Business Garden Bucharest, Romania

Business Garden Bucharest is a modern mixed-use Class A office complex featuring retail spaces paired with commercial and public services on the ground level. The name Business Garden stems from its integrated, spacious green area—a garden connecting the buildings with designated recreation spaces. A generous lawn, pedestrian pathways, and benches with free Wi-Fi invite office-goers to work or take a refreshing break outside. The complex is LEED Platinum pre-certified.

To support tenants’ everyday needs, Business Garden Bucharest’s offices are designed with an efficient layout, high-quality finishes, and sustainable solutions aligned with LEED Platinum green certifications.

For this project, Dextra supplied its Fortec rebar coupler solution. Fortec consists of a standard rebar coupler that can be used for both standard and position splices, connecting two rebar ends that have been previously enlarged and threaded. Fortec is especially suitable for seismic environments, making it ideal for buildings in the Bucharest area.

Fortec couplers were used to provide superstructure vertical connections. Their compact design helps reduce congestion caused by rebar lapping. Additionally, Fortec couplers allowed for temporary openings, enabling worker and equipment movement around the reinforcement. Before casting, the continuation bars were simply connected to the couplers, closing the temporary gaps.

Orhideea Towers, Romania

Orhideea Towers, Romania

Orhideea Towers is a double-tower office complex located in the western part of Bucharest. The towers stand 85 meters (17 floors) and 64 meters (13 floors) tall, respectively, and are connected by a sky bridge.

For this project, Dextra supplied its Fortec rebar coupler solution. The Fortec system consists of a standard rebar coupler, used for both standard and positional applications, connected to two rebar ends that have been enlarged and threaded. Fortec is particularly suitable for seismic environments, making it ideal for buildings in the Bucharest area.

Fortec couplers were used for all reinforcement connections in the heavily reinforced foundation mat (1.5 meters thick). Their compact design eliminates the need for overlapping rebar in congested areas, simplifying installation.

Additionally, Fortec couplers facilitated temporary openings, allowing workers and equipment to move through the reinforcement. Before casting, continuation bars were simply connected to the couplers, closing the temporary openings.

London Wall Place, UK

London Wall Place, UK

London Wall Place is a large double-tower office development in London, built close to the historic Roman City Wall.

For this project, Dextra provided a technical solution for the fast installation of precast wall panels to contractor Byrne Bros and main consultant WSP.

The concept involved installing Groutec couplers in each panel’s reinforcement, at the bottom of the vertical bars, which were previously prepared with the Rolltec thread system, available in the UK through our distributor network.

After bracing the precast panel in its final position, non-shrink grout is injected into the coupler cavity to create the rebar connection. Groutec is not reliant on a specific type of grout, allowing for the use of different brands, which facilitates local sourcing and helps reduce costs. Once the grout reaches the prescribed strength, the bracing around the panel can be removed.

The use of Groutec for precast panels is a time-saving and cost-effective method that maximizes the benefits of precast technology. For a similar application, check out the Plum Condo project page for reference videos.
