King Abdullah Financial District

King Abdullah Financial District

King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) is a multipurpose business and residential complex located in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The district consists of more than 50 towers and should ultimately host a working population of around 12,000 inhabitants.

Dextra Middle-East, also located in Dubai, has been involved from2009 for the supply of several building packages to Saudi Bin Ladin Group, the main contractor on the project.

Foundations piles

In order to provide vertical connection in foundation piles, Dextra supplied through its partners fabricators its popular
Bartec rebar coupler solution, the #1 rebar splicing solution in the Middle East.

As a complement to Bartec couplers, Dextra also supplied Unitec couplers, which were used for the continuation of bars protruding from the foundation piles. Unitec is a flexible solution for contractors as the bar end doesn’t need to be prepared in advance. It only requires an impact wrench and therefore it is easy to operate on remote building sites.

Raft and Columns

Bartec couplers were also used for the horizontal connection in the thick foundation rafts, and vertically in the protruding columns.

Corewall-to-beam applications

In the building superstructure, Dextra Bartec couplers were used to provide horizontal connection from the corewall, allowing to insert the second phase starter bars needed to create the beam reinforcement.

My Home GRAVA Hyderabad

My Home GRAVA Hyderabad

In the heart of Hyderabad, India, a towering testament to architectural excellence and engineering innovation is taking shape – the My Home GRAVA project. Comprising eight 43-storey towers, this mega project stands as a symbol of modern living and technological advancement in the construction industry. One of the key contributors to the success of this colossal venture is Dextra, a global leader in providing innovative solutions for the construction sector.

Optimizing Design and Construction:

My Home Construction, the visionary developer behind GRAVA, has left no stone unturned in ensuring the optimization of design and construction methodologies. From the early stages of planning, the focus has been on delivering a project that not only redefines luxury living but also sets new benchmarks for efficiency and sustainability in construction.

Dextra Couplers: A Structural Revolution:

At the core of GRAVA’s construction success is the implementation of 570,000 Groutec couplers and more than 70,000 Bartec couplers for all structural connections within the concrete frame. These couplers play a pivotal role in ensuring the structural integrity of the buildings, providing a secure and efficient connection between the precast elements.

The Groutec and Bartec couplers are known for their high-performance capabilities, making them ideal for large-scale and complex projects like GRAVA. These couplers eliminate the need for traditional lapped splicing, offering a faster and more reliable alternative for connecting and reinforcing concrete structures and precast concrete elements. This not only accelerates the construction process but also enhances the overall durability and safety of the structure.

As the My Home GRAVA project continues to rise and reshape the skyline of Hyderabad, it stands as a testament to the successful collaboration between visionary developers and innovative construction solution providers. Groutec and Bartec couplers have played a crucial role in the seamless construction of the eight 43-storey towers, contributing to the project’s efficiency, strength, and durability.

The project not only promises a luxurious living experience but also sets a new standard for construction excellence in India, with Dextra’s contribution leaving an indelible mark on its success.

Beijing CCTV Tower

Beijing CCTV Tower

CCTV Headquarter building is a landmark tower located in Central Beijing Business district. The tower is hosting the operations of China Central Television and has been since its completion in 2012 one of the architectural landmarks of the Chinese capital.

For that project, Dextra was involved in providing contractor China State Construction Engineering Corporation with an anchoring solution for the columns that will ultimately support the building “bridge” complex architecture.

The anchoring of the structure is a challenge on the CCTC building given the building’s height (234 meter) and its distinctive complex shape. Furthermore, the building is actually located in an area of seismic activity, and must therefore been built with to resist additional loads.

Dextra supplied high tensile PT bar Systems in large diameters. The Post-Tensioned system aim tolock themetallic structure located at the foot of the megacolumns, and anchor them into a heavily reinforced mat.

The large PT systems (bars and plates) came with additional corrosion protection accessories (tubes and injection ports), allowing for grout sealing.

Jumeirah Beach Residence

Jumeirah Beach Residence

Jumeirah Beach Residence is a long waterfront residential complex located along the Persian Gulf in the marina of Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The residential area comprises more 40 towers, many of them reaching the 40 floors mark. In total, the Jumeirah Beach Residence can host more than 15,000 people.

Dextra Middle-East, also located in Dubai, has been involved between 2003 and 2005 on numerous tower packages.

Foundations piles

In order to provide vertical connection in foundation piles, Dextra supplied through its partners fabricators its popular
Bartec rebar coupler solution, the #1 rebar splicing solution in the Middle East.

As a complement to couplers, more than 70,000 meters of Sonitec tubes were also supplied to the piling contractor to offer a practical and safe way to assemble sonic tubes, boosting productivity.

Raft and Columns

Bartec couplers were also used for the horizontal connection in the thick foundation rafts, and vertically in the protruding columns.

Corewall-to-beam applications

In the superstructure itself, Dextra couplers were used as horizontal connection points between the corewall and the beams.

For that application, couplers are cast in the corewall flush with the formwork. A thread protection cap supplied by Dextra protects the concrete from leaking in the
Bartec coupler.

At a later stage, continuation rebar, previously prepared with
Bartec threads, are connected into the pending couplers to create starter bars.

Mecca Mataf Expansion

Mecca Mataf Expansion

Mataf is the surrounding around the Kaba, center of the holiest mosque in Islam, located at the Grand Mosque of Mecca. It is at the place where the tawaf, the anti-clockwise circumambulation around the Kaba, takes place.

The Mataf expansion, is a large project planning to add 1,300,000 sqm to the existing 400,000 sqm of existing space. The renovation will feature a new basement and 3 additional floors, adding capacity for hundreds of thousands of additional worshippers.

For this very special project,Dextra Middle-East, has been involved in the supply of rebar couplers and anchor solutions.

Megacolumn

For the megacolummns, Dextra offered to contractors an opportunity to connect cages vertically, while coping for possible misalignment. This was done using Bartec Caging assemblies, which can perform a misalignment adjustment equivalent to one bar diameter.

While allowing reconnection, the Bartec Caging Assemblies were also used to temporarily lock the large column template (visible in red in photos) and guarantee the correct set up of column reinforcement.

Megacolumn footing

Dextra Bartec Headed Bars, which use the same type of threads as the couplers, were also installed at the footing of megacolumn as a way to cope with reinforcement congestion.

The anchors, compact and easy to set up, can be set on bars at the final stage of reinforcement installation. In that case, the anchors were installed from the top of the raft on the vertical bars.More than 100,000 Headed Bars were used on this type of applications during the project, those are visible as the X shape at the column footing.

Column-to-beam connections

For more standard applications, Bartec couplers were also used to perform the horizontal connections between columns and the beams.

The Broadway London

The Broadway London

The Broadway London project consists of six buildings, ranging between 13 and 19 stories tall. The mixed-use development is located between Westminster and Victoria, directly adjacent St James Park Station on a 1.7-acre triangular site.

The development contains 268 luxury apartments. Its ground floor will house 25,000 sq. ft. of high-end retail units, while 1st to 3rd will provide 116,000 sq. ft. of prime commercial space. It also has a colonnade between the east and west buildings, with feature landscaped residents’ gardens on the roof terraces.

SPARK Dry Port and Logistics Zone

SPARK Dry Port and Logistics Zone

The development of the dry port in Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Energy Park (SPARK) is set to revolutionize the logistics landscape in the Eastern Province. This ambitious project, which serves as a vital link between Dammam and al-Hasa, is poised to significantly improve customs services while supporting economic growth objectives and Aramco’s initiatives within the SPARK industrial complex.

A noteworthy aspect of this groundbreaking venture is the extensive use of Dextra’s 2.4 million linear meters of Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) rebar for slab-on-grade applications in areas subject to heavy loads.

GFRP rebar is a composite material made by reinforcing a polymer matrix with high-strength glass fibers. Unlike conventional steel rebar, which is susceptible to corrosion when exposed to moisture and aggressive chemicals, GFRP rebar is inherently corrosion resistant. This key attribute makes it an ideal choice for a wide range of construction applications, especially in harsh environments where traditional steel rebar would quickly deteriorate.
