MultiRio Container Terminal
The MultiRio Container Terminal is a large container terminal located in the Rio de Janeiro Port. The terminal specializes in the import/export of finished goods.
MultiRio plans to increase its shipping capacity by at least 50% and launch in 2012 an expansion project aiming at adding extra quay length to its infrastructure in order to receive additional port containers.
To support the pier expansion of MultiRio, Dextra has been working with contractor Andrade Gutierrez for the engineering and supply of Marine Tie Rods.
Dextra supplied in 2014, 100 tons of steel rods coming in medium diameters M56 and M59. The rods were anchored to the wall by the use of swivel plates and nuts, which conveniently allow 5° multidirectional adjustment.
Plates are positioned onto the Waling beams, also supplied by Dextra. Waling beams are installed onto the sheet piles. Their design is directly impacted by the Tie Rods solution chosen as for example spacing of the beams will be impacted by the diameter of the bar and angle of the rod.
Between the wall, Hinge couplers were installed in line to allow for additional vertical tolerance as sometimes required to counter the ground settlement efforts sometimes caused over times with heavy cranes operating and piles of stored containers.
