Mahakam IV Bridge, Indonesia
The Indonesian Ministry of Public Works (MoPW) commissioned the construction of a new twin bridges project, crossing the Mahakam River in Samarinda, in the East Kalimantan province. The Mahakam IV project includes two separated bridges: the 1,388m cable stayed bridge has a span length of 220m, width of 17m and a vertical clearance of 22m, while the 740m long main bridge has a width of 14m and a vertical clearance of 25m.
Dextra was already involved at the early stages of the project, providing BIM tools in order to integrate the tension supporting system into the overall structural design.
At the end of the process, more than 60 carbon steel tension rods of various lengths were delivered at the construction site. The system’s forks and turnbuckles allow length adjustment to match site requirements.
Dextra’s tension rod system allows for an optimal absorption of the tension loads of the structure. A number of different strength grades and surface finishes are available to fit all project’s technical and aesthetic requirements.
The project was completed and opened to traffic in 2019.
