Jizan Flood Mitigation Channel
Jizan Flood Mitigation Channel is an under-construction infrastructure project in Jizan Economic City, Saudi Arabia.
Being located on the coastline, the city faces the risk of floods due to the frequent torrential rainfalls.
The flood channel plays the important role of protecting these downstream areas from major flood damage.
The channel will be exposed to seawater and water environmental contaminants that can influence the corrosion of steel: for this reason, Dextra ASTEC glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) rebar was the perfect solution for the project. Almost 2 million meters of the GFRP rebar were delivered.
ASTEC GFRP rebar is a corrosive-free non-metallic reinforcing bar that provides higher tensile strength than steel while being lighter in weight.
Upon its completion, the project will be the world’s largest construction using GFRP rebars as its concrete reinforcement.
