Jizan Flood Mitigation Channel
The Jizan Flood Mitigation Channel is an ongoing infrastructure project in Jizan Economic City, Saudi Arabia.
Located along the coastline, the city is at risk of flooding due to frequent torrential rainfall. The flood channel plays a crucial role in protecting downstream areas from major flood damage.
As the channel will be exposed to seawater and environmental contaminants that can accelerate steel corrosion, Dextra ASTEC glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) rebar was chosen as the ideal solution for the project. Nearly 2 million meters of GFRP rebar were supplied.
ASTEC GFRP rebar is a corrosion-free, non-metallic reinforcing bar that offers higher tensile strength than steel while being significantly lighter in weight.
Upon completion, this project will be the world’s largest construction using GFRP rebars as concrete reinforcement.
