The MultiRio Container Terminal, located in the Rio de Janeiro Port, specializes in the import/export of finished goods. To increase its shipping capacity by at least 50%, MultiRio launched an expansion project in 2012 to add extra quay length and accommodate more containers.

To support this pier expansion, Dextra partnered with contractor Andrade Gutierrez for the engineering and supply of Marine Tie Bars.

In 2014, Dextra supplied 100 tons of steel rods in medium diameters M56 and M59. The rods were anchored to the wall using swivel plates and nuts, allowing for 5° multidirectional adjustment.

These plates were positioned onto the waler beams, which were also supplied by Dextra. Waler beams are installed onto the sheet piles, and their design is directly influenced by the chosen Marine Tie Bars solution. For example, the spacing of the beams is impacted by the diameter of the bars and the angle of the rods.

Between the wall, Hinge couplers were installed in line to allow for additional vertical tolerance. This was necessary to counteract ground settlement, which can occur over time due to the heavy cranes operating and the piles of stored containers. The Hinge couplers provided the flexibility needed to accommodate any vertical movement and ensure the stability of the structure.

Paradip International Cargo Terminal (PICT) is a multipurpose berth located at Paradip Port on India’s eastern coast, designed to handle clean cargo. The berth has a depth of 17.1 meters and a length of 450 meters, allowing it to accommodate cape-sized vessels up to 125,000 DWT. It will handle a range of cargoes including containerized goods, iron and steel products, fertilizer, food grains, and sugar.

Dextra supplied approximately 370 tons of Marine Tie Bar systems, sizes M105 and M76, Grade 500, along with accessories like couplers, turnbuckles, swivel plates, and swivel nuts. These tie bar systems were used to secure the concrete diaphragm walls at both ends of the berth, ensuring the structural integrity of the terminal.

With the new berth becoming operational in 2018, Paradip Port now boasts a total of 18 berths, including 13 cargo berths, 2 oil tanker berths, and 3 crude oil tanker berths with a single-point mooring system for handling crude oil tankers. This expansion significantly enhances the port’s capacity to handle a wide range of cargo and oil shipments.

Mugharraq Port, located 240 kilometers from Abu Dhabi, UAE, is undergoing a significant marine development project. The expansion includes extending the quay wall to 480 meters, deepening the facility to 8 meters, and adding six Ro-Ro ramps and additional berths to facilitate heavy lift operations.

Dextra supplied 407 tons of marine tie bars (size M103, grade 700) to connect the sea walls to the anchor walls.

This project aims to enhance the port’s infrastructure and service capabilities, better supporting offshore and mega projects in the oil and gas industry.

Altamira Port, located on the Gulf of Mexico in Tamaulipas, Mexico, is a key hub connecting with 125 ports worldwide. It handles a wide range of cargo, including liquid and dry bulk, petrochemicals, LNG, containers, and general cargo, serving an important industrial and economic region.

As part of its expansion to strengthen Mexico’s position as a global logistics platform, Dextra supplied 174 tons of grade 700 marine tie bars to anchor the sea walls during the project.

Additionally, सोनीटेक, a sonic tube solution, was used for CSL (crosshole sonic logging) testing of foundation piles in the quay. This technique ensures the structural integrity and homogeneity of concrete in the piles by measuring the speed of ultrasonic pulses.

The Port of Sète, located on the Mediterranean Sea, is the largest fishing port in southern France and also serves numerous ferry routes to North Africa, including Tangiers. As part of its efforts to increase container capacity, the port is adding a new quay (Quay H), 15 meters deep, to improve both handling and storage of containers.

To support contractor Soletanche-Bachy in the construction of this new quay, Dextra engineered and supplied 74 large समुद्री टाई बार assemblies, the largest in our range at M160. These large-diameter assemblies reduce the number of sets required by increasing spacing between each rod.

The tie rods were anchored into the D-Wall using ball cages, which allow a 10° rotational angle in all directions. After excavation, the ball cages were opened to enable reconnection of the threaded ends of the rods.

Dextra played a key role in the expansion of Fujairah Port, initially supplying over a thousand tons of marine tie bar systems for the construction of Oil Terminal 2 and South Breakwater Berths in 2007.

In 2017, Dextra contributed to the Service Harbour construction project, which involved building a new service harbor building, quay walls, and marine works. For this project, approximately 380 tons of grade 700 marine tie bars were supplied to anchor the quay walls. The high-performance bars, known for offering better performance at smaller diameters, were selected to facilitate easier transportation and installation.

The project also involved the construction of two breakwaters: the 800-meter-long northern breakwater and the 1.2-kilometer-long southern breakwater, which was built with varying rock grades.

Aberdeen Harbour, one of the UK’s oldest and busiest ports, serves as a key hub for the oil and gas industry in north-west Europe, with connections to 40 countries.

The expansion of the South Harbour aims to enhance and diversify the port’s capabilities, making it the largest port in Scotland in terms of berthage. The project includes dredging Nigg Bay, constructing two breakwaters, and developing new quays on the north and west sides of the bay.

Dextra provided a practical solution for concrete integrity testing of the 35-45m deep bored piles supporting the harbour structure. The contractor, Dragados, used सोनिटेक सोनिक ट्यूब (50mm and 100mm) for inclinometrics and coring purposes.

The Sonitec system, equipped with enlarged bell-mouth ends, facilitates the easy connection of long tubes for reinforcement cages. Once lowered into the hole and filled with concrete, the tubes were used for ultrasonic cross-hole testing, complying with ASTM D6760 standards.

This expansion enhances opportunities for existing customers and opens doors to new markets, future-proofing the port’s ability to support economic growth in Aberdeen and the surrounding region.

Sokhna Port’s expansion project is transforming global trade, featuring a 480-meter quay wall and an 18-meter draft for Basin 2. This initiative boosts Egypt’s maritime capabilities and highlights Dextra’s role in delivering advanced marine infrastructure solutions.

Strategically located on the Red Sea near the Suez Canal, Sokhna Port is pivotal to international trade. The Basin 2 extension is designed to meet growing trade demands and strengthen connectivity between Asia, Europe, and Africa.

Dextra supplied 265 tons of grade 700 marine tie bars and ball cages for the DP World terminal construction, ensuring enhanced structural integrity and durability in challenging marine conditions.

The reconstruction of Pak Kok Pier on Lamma Island aims to enhance the pier’s infrastructure, including new facilities such as roof covers, lighting, benches, solar panels, and environmental measures. The existing pier’s design and rough sea conditions have made boarding and alighting difficult, especially for children and the elderly.

To address this, Dextra supplied over 600 meters of GFRP (Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer) rebar in both straight and bent shapes to reinforce the ferry pier structure. GFRP rebar, a corrosion-resistant alternative to steel, is ideal for the harsh seawater environment, ensuring long-lasting durability.
