Yangon Landmark Development and Peninsula Hotel, Myanmar
Yangon’s Landmark Development, also known as Yoma Central, is a mixed-use development project located in the heart of Yangon, the commercial capital of Myanmar.
This project features a large retail shopping center, office towers, a hotel, and luxury apartments. The entire development is built around the historic headquarters of the Burma Railway Company, which is being renovated into a Peninsula hotel.
Dextra supplied its rebar couplers and equipment to the contractor joint venture BYMA/Taisei (BYMA is a collaboration between Dragages Singapore and Yoma). More than 200,000 Bartec couplers are being delivered to the site and will be used for Liaison d'armatures from the foundations to the superstructure.
As of the end of 2017, this major construction project marked Dextra’s largest-ever undertaking in Myanmar and the first in the country to utilize the Bartec Solution de couplage de barres d'armature. La Bartec system is well-suited for Myanmar, as its Type-2 splice is recommended for large structures in seismic regions.
In the first phase of the project, Bartec rebar couplers in 20mm, 25mm, 28mm, and 32mm diameters are being used for foundation works, particularly in the parois moulées surrounding the area (for vertical connections and horizontal slab reconnections). Couplers are also being installed in large concrete beams that will support the Peninsula hotel.
Scheduled for completion in 2021, this development embodies both the modern ambitions and rich history of Myanmar, a country undergoing rapid transformation.
