The Valenciennes Bowstring is a 2-kilometer-long bridge construction project that will connect the Saint-Saulve roundabout with the Bruay-sur-l’Escaut roundabout (North). It features a 76-meter-long bowstring bridge, a double-girder engineering structure, a pedestrian footbridge, and a wildlife passage.

Dextra, in collaboration with its local partner, Freyssinet, supplied a tension rod system as a hanger for the bowstring arch bridge on the bypass, ensuring the structure’s stability.

The tension rod system is renowned not only for its high performance but also for its customizable parameters, including design load, surface finish, and corrosion resistance, to meet all technical and aesthetic project requirements.

The Pelješac Bridge construction aimed to connect the mainland to the Pelješac Peninsula, eliminating the need for ferry services and significantly reducing travel time between these regions. Dextra’s Fortec couplers played a pivotal role in connecting the pile reinforcement cages, ensuring the bridge’s structural stability.

A total of 85,000 Fortec couplers, in sizes ranging from 16-50 mm, and in Types A, B, and C, were used in the construction of the Pelješac Bridge. These couplers securely connected the pile reinforcement cages, ensuring the long-term stability and safety of this critical infrastructure.

Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX), a colossal bridge in the Philippines

Cebu–Cordova Link Expressway is one of the biggest infrastructure projects being undertaken in the Philippines. The project features a combination of a causeway, a gigantic cable-stayed bridge that will cross the navigable zone of the Cebu Strait, two Viaduc, and four low-height bridges, as well as roadways and pedestrian walkways. The CCLEX Project aims to provide better transport facilities while reducing traffic congestion in the region, as well as to improve connectivity within Cebu City. It is also intended to support Cordova’s economic growth, as the expressway will position the city as the gateway for island tourism. Also known as the Third Mandaue–Mactan Bridge, the official groundbreaking of the toll bridge was in 2017, with the completion being scheduled for 2022.

After its completion, the Cebu-Cordova Expressway will link the Cebu mainland and Mactan Island through Cordova town. The 8.5 km-long toll bridge will feature two lanes that will serve up to 40,000 vehicles a day. The main bridge will be built with a 400-meter cable-stayed main span, with 60-meter navigation clearance, allowing ships to easily navigate through the expressway. The main bridge of the expressway will connect the Guadalupe River to Shell Island in Cordova, while its colossal Viaduc will link it to the causeway and road networks to Mactan.

Dextra Bartec, reinforcing solutions for the construction of the Cebu-Cordova Bridge

The design and the construction of this megaproject are undertaken by the Cebu Link Joint Venture (CLJV). The CLJV is a joint-venture partnership between the Spain-based Acciona Construccion S.A. and the Philippines-based First Balfour Inc. and D.M. Consunji Inc. For the Armatures of the colossal expressway’s foundations, the contractor has chosen Dextra’s well-known rebar Solution de raboutage Bartec. More than 35,000 units of Standard, Bridging, and Transition splices of steel grade 75, both in diameters 40 and 50, have been applied to the foundations’ Pieux cages as of July 2018. Moreover, to provide better end anchorages in congested areas, the CLJV opted for Dextra Bartec headed bars, which are also known as end anchors. Bartec end anchors are a convenient alternative to Epingle, traditionally used for anchoring. Le projet de tunnel West Gate offrira une alternative vitale au pont West Gate, en fournissant une deuxième traversée de rivière indispensable, des trajets plus rapides et plus sûrs et en éliminant des milliers de camions des rues résidentielles.

Le projet reliera la West Gate Freeway à Yarraville au port de Melbourne et CityLink aux Docklands via des tunnels jumeaux sous Yarraville et une Footscray Road surélevée.

La route surélevée comprend 300 pieux de hauteur variable. Les pieux ont été préfabriqués en plusieurs segments, à proximité du chantier. Des barres de post-tension verticales assemblent tous les segments de chaque pieu.

Ce mode de construction des pieux est de plus en plus courant mais nécessite une préparation impeccable, tant au niveau de l'énoncé de la méthode que de la définition des produits. Chaque détail est fondamental pour la réussite de l'installation.

Dextra a fourni à Freyssinet plus de 1 000 tonnes de systèmes Freyssibar+, grade 930/1 080 MPa, de diamètres nominaux 72 mm et 55 mm, et 7 500 ancrages pour application verticale permanente.

Grâce à une étroite collaboration entre DEXTRA, le back-office Freyssinet (Service Technique et société produits Freyssinet) et le personnel du chantier (Freyssinet Major Project et Freyssinet Australia), le système de post-tension a été parfaitement adapté aux besoins du projet.

Les diamètres des barres, la qualité de l'acier et la conception des ancrages ont été validés par des tests de qualification selon les normes australiennes, démontrant les performances du système.

Ce système de barres peut être utilisé pour la post-tension, les ancrages au sol précontraints et toute application impliquant des tirants temporaires ou permanents, du levage, de la suspension, des épissures précontraintes, etc.

La construction d'un grand projet a débuté en janvier 2018.

The Bar-Boljare Highway Project is a key infrastructure project led by the Ministry of Transportation and Maritime Affairs of Montenegro. It aims at improving the connections within the country and also between Montenegro and the rest of Europe to boost the country’s economy and tourism.

The project, built by China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), embodies a new successful example of the cooperation between China and Eastern Europe. The new 2×2-way highway spans over 40 km. It is built in challenging terrains and yet satisfies both EU & Montenegro standards of road infrastructure. Its schedule is ambitious too: both roads and Viaduc should be built in under 4 years. For the Bar-Boljare Highway Project, Dextra supplied its Bartec rebar coupler solution, used for the splicing of rebar in the piles of the four Viaduc. Dextra Bartec Solution de raboutage was chosen on that project for its compliance with ISO 15835 S2, which defines rebar couplers and Armatures to be resistant to violent earthquake conditions. A total of 230,000 Bartec rebar couplers have been supplied to CRBC.

Doha Link is a marine bridge project currently being built west of Kuwait City. It will ultimately be connected to the Main Causeway Across Kuwait Bay, another sea link project north of Kuwait City, which will make the Jaber Causeway sea link, one of the largest civil engineering projects ever built in the Middle East. The Doha Link stretches west of Kuwait City. It will ultimately solve traffic congestion and offer a direct itinerary thanks to a 7.7 km bridge structure built on shallow waters across the Kuwait Bay.

Dextra a été impliqué dès le début du projet de construction afin de fournir une solution technique pour l'épissage des très grandes cages de barres d'armature constituant les pieux de fondation onshore et offshore. Rolltec® couplers for large diameter rebar (32, 36, and 40mm) were used for the connection of cages and piers. Two grades of rebar are used across the project: ASTM Grade 60 and Grade 80. Rolltec is compatible by design with the higher ASTM Grade 80; the same couplers may be used on all applications, simplifying stock keeping. In addition, smaller diameter couplers for rebar 12mm and 16mm were used for the superstructure and the footing of light poles. One of the main advantages of Rolltec for remote projects is its very light machine setup. Rolltec is supported by a single one-man machine, offering a high level of productivity. Because the equipment is relatively small and the rebar preparation efforts were taking place simultaneously on both sides of the sea link construction, Dextra dispatched up to 4 machines on each side of the project to support the Pieux efforts.

With large piles of 2.5m diameter and 60m depth on average, it was compulsory for GS E&C to conduct sonic logging tests to examine the integrity of concrete piles, requiring the installation of 8 tubes in each cage. To achieve very long tube length and optimize cage preparation output, Dextra Sonitec was the preferred choice of the contractor. Thanks to its lightweight and unique Push-Fit® connection feature. Sonitec provides enough flexibility during the cage construction, lifting, and assembly of the cage and removes the need for additional time-consuming welding operations.

Le Mahatma Gandhi Setu (également connu sous le nom de Gandhi Setu ou Ganga Setu) est un pont qui enjambe le Gange dans le Bihar, en Inde, et relie Patna et Hajipur. Il s'agit du troisième plus long pont fluvial d'Inde, avec une longueur de 5 750 mètres.

Le pont a connu des embouteillages considérables au cours des dernières décennies en raison de l'augmentation du nombre de voitures qui le traversaient, ce qui l'avait amené à fonctionner à pleine capacité et à surcharger la structure. Il a fallu remplacer la superstructure en béton par une charpente en acier.

Dextra participated in this renovation project by supplying RepairGrip couplers for the connection of old Pile and new Pile caps.

Des barres entièrement filetées ont également été fournies pour diverses applications lors de la démolition de l'ancienne superstructure.

Le flanc ouest rénové a été ouvert au public le 31 juillet 2020.

The Main Causeway across the Kuwait Bay is a 36-km-long project currently being built north of Kuwait City. It will ultimately be connected to Doha Link, another sea link project west of Kuwait City, which will connect the Jaber Causeway sea link, one of the largest civil engineering projects ever built in the Middle East.

The main causeway across Kuwait Bay stretches north of Kuwait City. It is expected that the link will greatly contribute to the development of the northern part of Kuwait. To achieve that, the Causeway will literally cut across Kuwait Bay with a 27-km sea link.

For the visible part of the sea link, Dextra worked with contractor Hyundai to offer high-tensile post-tensioning bar solutions.

For part of the sea link, which is topped by a metallic cable-stayed structure. Higher performance bars in Grade 1050/1200 were used to offer a vertical anchoring point between the pylon and the reinforcement of the pile. PT Bars were delivered with a full corrosion protection accessory set by Dextra so that the bars will resist the marine conditions.

For the concrete integrity testing of the onshore and offshore foundation piles, Dextra supplied around 400,000 linear meters of Sonitec tubes, which are easy to set up and reconnect without the need for welding, which significantly increases the productivity of the pile assemblies.

Le projet Cross Tay Link Road à Perth et Kinross, en Écosse, devrait transformer les transports dans la région. L'une des caractéristiques notables de ce projet de construction de route est l'inclusion d'un pont à trois travées sur la magnifique rivière Tay, la plus longue rivière d'Écosse. Ce projet vise à améliorer la connectivité et à améliorer l’efficacité des déplacements des résidents et des visiteurs.

Pour assurer l'intégrité structurelle des pieux de fondation du pont, Dextra a fourni une quantité de 1 920 tubes, soit 11 136 mètres linéaires de Sonitec ST50. Ce produit spécialisé est conçu pour les tests d’intégrité des pieux à l’aide de la méthode Crosshole Sonic Logging (CSL). Il facilite l'évaluation de la qualité et de la fiabilité des pieux de fondation, garantissant ainsi la stabilité et la sécurité à long terme du pont.

The Tan Vu–Lach Huyen Bridge is a 5.4-km-long bridge located east of Hai Phong, in the north of Vietnam. The bridge is connecting the Hai Han district (east of Hai Phong) to the new port of Lach Huyen, located on the island district of Cat Hai. This will also allow the port of Lach Huyen to be directly connected to the Hai Phong/Hanoi highway, drastically reducing the transit time to Vietnam’s capital city.

The bridge project is part of a broader infrastructure plan: the Tan Vu–Lach Huyen highway infrastructure project, which aims to develop Hai Phong as a main transportation hub in the North of Vietnam.

For this bridge project, Dextra supplied two types of post-tensioning systems:

  • Pour le renforcement permanent des segments de poutres préfabriquées, Dextra a fourni Systèmes de barres lisses PT avec extrémités filetées dans les tailles M39 et M49, nuances 835/1030 et 930/1080. Les systèmes de barres Dextra sont utilisés pour la post-tension verticale des segments en béton.

  • For the lifting and temporary fixing of the precast girder segments during the construction phase, Dextra supplied its fully threaded bar systems in diameters 32 and 36, grade 1080/1230.

For all temporary applications such as lifting and fixing operations, fully threaded PT bar systems are a convenient and economical solution, as they can easily be cut, adjusted, and reused several times. Thanks to their continuous thread, the bars can be spliced at any point by the use of couplers or turnbuckles, which are also available from Dextra.
