Ensuring Robust Connections with Bartec Rebar Couplers

Dextra supplied nearly 2 million Bartec rebar couplers, essential for creating secure connections across various structural components. These couplers have been utilized extensively in the connections for diaphragm wall (d-wall) caging and slabs, pile cages, piers, and pier caps. By ensuring high-strength rebar connections, Bartec couplers contribute to the overall durability and resilience of the metro structure, particularly important in a densely populated and busy urban environment like Chennai.

Precision Testing with Sonitec CSL Testing Tubes

To ensure the highest standards of concrete integrity, Dextra provided over 80,000 Sonitec crosshole sonic logging (CSL) testing tubes. These tubes facilitate rigorous testing of piles and d-walls, helping to identify potential flaws within the concrete structure. This meticulous testing process enables project engineers to detect and address any irregularities, safeguarding the integrity and longevity of the metro’s foundations.

Supporting Complex Structures with CR Bar 1080 Post-Tensioning Bars

For the support of double-decker piers and the pre-tensioning of U-girders, Dextra supplied 68 CR Bar 1080 post-tensioning bars. These high-strength, fully threaded bars are critical in handling the complex loads and stresses that the elevated sections of the metro will endure. The inclusion of these bars ensures that the metro can withstand heavy traffic and operational demands over time, contributing to the long-term safety and functionality of the infrastructure.

Facilitating Tunnel Boring with GFRP Soft-Eyes

In the tunneling phase, Dextra also provided 42 GFRP soft-eyes, specifically designed for tunnel boring machine (TBM) operations. These soft-eyes allow TBMs to pass through concrete walls smoothly, ensuring safe and efficient tunneling while reducing the risk of structural damage. CR Bar 1080 for U-Girder Stressing and Pre-Tensioning

One of the critical components of the project is the elevated section of the metro, which relies on U-girders for support. To enhance the strength and resilience of these U-girders, Dextra supplied its innovative CR Bar 1080 cold-rolled fully threaded post-tensioning bars. These bars, with a diameter of 75mm, are specifically designed to withstand high stress during both U-girder stressing and pre-tensioning operations. The hexagonal nuts provided as part of the system allow for secure fastening and easy adjustment, ensuring precise tensioning to meet the structural demands.

 

Fully Threaded (FT) Bar for Segment Stitching and Temporary Stressing

For segment stitching and temporary stressing operations during the construction of the metro viaduct, Dextra supplied its fully threaded (FT) bars. These bars provide secure connections between precast segments and offer flexibility for adjustments during the stitching process, ensuring that the structural alignment is perfect before the segments are permanently joined.

Unitec Couplers for Rebar Connections

In addition, Dextra supplied Unitec couplers, designed for connecting rebars at construction sites without the need for pre-threading. These couplers offer a convenient and robust solution, allowing for seamless connection of two rebars, ensuring structural continuity and strength without delays in the construction process.

Sonitec CSL Testing Tubes for Concrete Pile Integrity

In addition to supplying post-tensioning bars, Dextra also provided Sonitec Crosshole Sonic Logging (CSL) testing tubes for the integrity testing of the concrete piles supporting the metro structures. These tubes enable highly accurate non-destructive testing of the concrete, allowing engineers to detect any potential flaws or weaknesses in the piles. Dextra played a pivotal role in the construction of the Central Kowloon Route (CKR) – Central Tunnel project in Hong Kong by supplying Fortec+ couplers, along with steel rock bolts, expandable friction bolts, umbrella pipes, and post-tensioning bars for tunneling works. These mechanical rebar couplers were integral in ensuring strong and reliable connections within the road tunnel structure, meeting the stringent requirements for safety and durability.

The CKR, a major infrastructure project aimed at improving traffic flow across Kowloon, required advanced construction techniques. Dextra’s Fortec+ couplers, used in locations such as precast panels, tunnel access points, and driveways, contributed significantly to the project’s structural integrity and long-term performance. The Fortec+ system includes a rebar preparation process in which the threaded bar end is proof tested with a tensile load, ensuring non-destructive testing within the elastic zone of the reinforcing bar.

The San Shek Wan Sewage Treatment Works (STW) project in Hong Kong marks a significant step towards addressing the sewage disposal needs of the South Lantau region. As the population of South Lantau is projected to grow, with an ultimate population reaching approximately 12,600 by 2039, the sewage flow is anticipated to increase to 5,800 m³/day. To accommodate this, a comprehensive sewerage system is being constructed, which includes a trunk sewerage system for Pui O area, a secondary STW at San Shek Wan, and a village sewerage system for Lo Uk.

A critical component of this ambitious infrastructure project is the use of advanced materials and technologies to ensure its successful and sustainable completion. Dextra, a global leader in engineered construction products, has played a pivotal role by supplying Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) soil nails for the excavation and lateral support (ELS) works.

The Role of GFRP Soil Nails in ELS Works

The excavation and lateral support works are essential to the project’s foundation and stability. The challenging geotechnical conditions in Hong Kong, characterized by complex soil and rock formations, necessitate the use of robust and reliable reinforcement solutions. GFRP soil nails, provided by Dextra, are ideal for such conditions due to their high tensile strength, corrosion resistance, and lightweight nature.

GFRP soil nails are used to stabilize slopes and excavations, preventing landslides and soil erosion. Their corrosion resistance is particularly beneficial in environments exposed to moisture and chemicals, such as sewage treatment works. This ensures a longer lifespan and reduced maintenance costs compared to traditional steel reinforcement.

The advanced materials have ensured that the excavation and lateral support works are not only robust and reliable but also cost-effective over the long term.

Upon completion, the sewage from South Lantau will be conveyed to the newly constructed STW for proper treatment. The treated effluent will then be safely discharged into the sea about 1.4 km off the South Lantau coast, ensuring minimal environmental impact. This project represents a crucial infrastructure upgrade that will support the region’s growth and development while maintaining high environmental and operational standards.

The Cairo Monorail Bowstring Bridge project, a pivotal part of Egypt’s expanding urban infrastructure, has significantly benefited from the expertise and quality products supplied by Dextra. Known for their innovative engineering solutions, Dextra provided critical materials to support the construction of this state-of-the-art transportation link.

In particular, Dextra supplied tension rods in two distinct specifications for the project:

  1. M78/OD75 in Grade CS520 – A total of 60 sets were delivered.
  2. M83/OD80 in Grade CS520 – An additional 8 sets were provided.

These tension rods were specifically used as hangers for the bowstring bridge, ensuring a high level of strength and durability, which is crucial for the safety and longevity of the bridge, to maintain structural integrity and withstand the stresses of daily monorail operations.

Dextra’s tension rods, known for their high tensile strength and resistance to environmental factors while providing architectural pleasure, played a critical role in meeting these demands. This involvement underscores the importance of reliable and advanced engineering solutions in modern infrastructure projects, highlighting Dextra’s commitment to excellence and innovation in the field of civil engineering.

Création has played a pivotal role in the construction of Singapore’s Cross Island Line (CRL) MRT project, supplying Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) soft-eyes, Bartec couplers and Barres à tête for several crucial packages. Création continues to support the ongoing packages of this extensive project.

The CRL is set to become Singapore’s eighth MRT line and its longest fully underground line, stretching over 50 kilometers. The project is being executed in three phases, with the first phase anticipated to be operational by 2030.

To minimize the environmental impact on the forested areas of the nature reserve, engineering solutions were meticulously chosen to further mitigate environmental disruption. These solutions include digging deeper into the ground and employing a large diameter boring machine, capable of accommodating two train tracks within a single tunnel. This approach not only reduces the surface footprint but also enhances the efficiency of the tunneling process.

Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) are a staple in Singapore’s subterranean infrastructure projects, adept at operating under a variety of ground conditions. The use of GFRP soft-eyes supplied by Création is integral to these operations. Soft-eyes are essential components in TBM tunneling, acting as temporary openings that allow the TBM to break through concrete walls without compromising structural integrity. The GFRP material is preferred for its high strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, and ease of installation, ensuring safe and efficient tunneling operations.

Création‘s expertise and reliable supply of GFRP soft-eyes, Bartec couplers and headed bars have significantly contributed to the progress of the CRL project, aligning with Singapore’s commitment to sustainable and innovative infrastructure development. As the CRL project advances, Création remains a key partner, supporting the construction of this monumental MRT line that will eventually enhance the daily commute for millions of Singaporeans.

 

Grand Paris Express – Line 14

Le Grand Paris Express est un projet majeur de transport urbain implanté autour de la capitale française. Le projet ajoutera 4 nouvelles lignes (lignes 15, 16, 17 et 18) et prolongera deux lignes existantes (11 et 14).

Dextra a été impliqué sur les forfaits de plusieurs stations par l'intermédiaire de ses partenaires distributeurs locaux. Sur la ligne 14 notamment, Dextra a fourni des coupleurs à barres Fortec dans les gares d'Orsay et de Pont Cardinet.

Pour la Gare de Bagneux au Nord de Paris, située au croisement de la ligne 4 du métro et de la future ligne 15, Dextra a fourni ses Ancres Actives ASTEC.

Les ancrages actifs ASTEC sont la solution privilégiée pour les travaux dans les stations de métro, car les tunneliers et les équipements de terrassement peuvent simplement couper les tendons FRP des ancrages à tout moment, éliminant ainsi tout besoin de retrait peu fiable et coûteux des ancrages. La solution a été approuvée pour ce projet par le cabinet de conseil SYSTRA.

Après de nombreux projets réussis au Moyen-Orient, c'était la première fois que des ancres actives ASTEC (une innovation récente de Dextra) étaient installées en Europe.

Agrandissement des travaux de traitement des eaux usées de Sha Tau Kok, phase 1

Le projet d'agrandissement de la phase 1 de l'usine de traitement des eaux usées de Sha Tau Kok témoigne de l'engagement de Hong Kong en faveur de la durabilité environnementale et de la gestion efficace des eaux usées. Il vise à augmenter la capacité de traitement, en garantissant que les eaux usées de la ville soient traitées de manière efficace et respectueuse de l'environnement. Une caractéristique remarquable de cette extension est l'utilisation de coupleurs Groutec S pour relier de manière transparente les colonnes préfabriquées du bâtiment.

Groutec est conçu pour l'installation efficace et facile d'éléments préfabriqués en béton, réduisant ainsi le temps de construction et les coûts de main-d'œuvre tout en assurant une connexion structurelle complète. Pour ce projet, des coupleurs préfabriqués Groutec S de diamètre 32 mm ont été utilisés pour connecter des colonnes préfabriquées dans des applications verticales. Le coupleur Groutec est installé dans l'élément inférieur, puis le coulis est coulé par gravité directement dans la cavité du coupleur. Ce processus garantit l’intégrité structurelle et la longévité de l’installation.

La station Msheireb est la principale station d'échange du métro de Doha. Situé au centre-ville de Doha, il relie les trois lignes (Rouge, Verte et Or) et constituera une porte d'entrée pour les stades de la Coupe du Monde de la FIFA 2022.

La station Msheireb deviendra l’une des plus grandes stations de métro au monde en termes de taille.

Soft-Eyes pour tunneliers

Pour ce projet majeur, Dextra a conçu et fourni entre 2013 et 2015 8 grands Soft-Eyes ASTEC GFRP, d'un diamètre de 8 mètres chacun. Les Soft Eyes sont des cages de barres d'armature en PRV, positionnées dans les murs en D entre les segments en acier. Les Soft-Eyes en GFRP permettent le passage des tunneliers (TBM) en un minimum de temps car les barres peuvent être facilement écrasées par le tunnelier.

Ancrages d'arrimage

Pour ancrer les murs en D massifs et empêcher tout déplacement du sol lors des travaux d'excavation, Dextra a également fourni ses ancrages actifs ASTEC (AAA). Ces ancrages innovants à base de GFRP post-tendus ont l'avantage d'être coupés par les tunneliers ou les équipements d'excavation standard. Puisqu'il peut être facilement coupé, il n'est pas nécessaire de le retirer du sol, même lorsqu'il est utilisé pour des applications temporaires.

Dans le cas des stations Msheireb, des ancrages multi-tendons (10 par ancrage sur ce projet) ont même été installés au centre de Soft-Eye pour ancrer le D-Wall. Ces ancrages ont également été coupés lors du percement du tunnel (visible dans la vidéo ci-dessous). Au total, 150 ancres ont été installées dans la station.

BTS de Bangkok

BTS de Bangkok

Le système de transport en commun de Bangkok (BTS) est un grand système de métro aérien urbain situé à Bangkok, la capitale de la Thaïlande. Le système a été inauguré en 1999.

Depuis 2017, le système se compose de 24 gares surélevées et de 37 km de voies ferrées surélevées organisées en deux lignes principales se croisant à la gare centrale de Siam.

Le système BTS subit une extension de ses deux lignes principales avec des segments de ligne et des stations qui devraient entrer en service en 2019 et 2020.

Fondations

Au fil des ans, pour divers projets, Dextra a fourni des tubes Sonitec, qui sont utilisés pour tester les fondations sur pieux en béton situées sous les gares et les voies ferrées.

Au total, Dextra a fourni environ 40 000 mètres linéaires de tubes Sonitec, une distance en réalité équivalente à la longueur du système BTS lui-même.

Pylônes

Pour les connexions de barres verticales de pylônes, Dextra a proposé ses
Bartec connexion.
Bartec permet d'assembler facilement des cages d'armature préfabriquées à l'aide d'un simple coupleur de barres d'armature, permettant des économies d'acier par rapport au chevauchement et accélérant les opérations sur site.

En Thaïlande, l'opération de filetage est prise en charge par l'usine Dextra, idéalement située au nord-est de Bankgok. Les entrepreneurs reçoivent les barres d'armature déjà préparées et montées avec leur coupleur de barres d'armature.
