Extension de la ligne MRT Thomson-East Coast de Singapour

Extension de la ligne MRT Thomson-East Coast de Singapour

The Thomson-East Coast Line is a future MRT line in Singapore that will connect the Thomson Line with the Eastern Region Line. The 43-km link will add 31 new stations to the existing rail network, with seven interchange stations.

For that project, Dextra supplied numerous packages, including Marine Terrace Station, where four large-diameter TYMPANS COMPOSITES POUR LES TUNNELIERS were installed in the diaphragm wall cages in August 2017.

Soft-Eyes are made of GFRP rebar, which is used to replace the steel reinforcement in the D-Walls of construction shafts. When the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) breaks through the D-Walls, it easily cuts the GFRP bars, saving time in the project schedule and reducing equipment costs.

Dextra pioneered this application in the Bangkok metro project in 1998 and has extensive experience in the in-house design and manufacturing of Soft-Eyes.

The D-Walls installed at Marine Terrace Station also feature Bartec® rebar couplers, a common solution for reconnecting slabs horizontally in underground stations. Bartec couplers are also widely used for vertical connections in foundation piles and slabs.

Aéroport international de Chennai

Aéroport international de Chennai

Chennai International Airport is the main airport serving the southern city of Chennai in India. Located to the south of the city, it is the fourth busiest airport in India.

Dextra was involved in the construction efforts surrounding the airport’s renovation, which took place between 2008 and 2012.

For Chennai Airport, Dextra delivered its popular Bartec rebar coupler solution, which is the primary rebar coupler used in large projects across India.

The main contractor for this project was Herve Pomerleau International (HPI) – Consolidated Construction Consortium Limited. The contractor chose the Bartec solution to splice Armatures in all columns and piers (vertical connections) as well as for beams and foundation mats.

Thanks to its parallel thread technology and rebar prepared with various thread lengths, Bartec offers a very high level of performance. It requires only one coupler for both standard applications (when one bar can be rotated inside the coupler) and Système position (when no bar can be rotated).

Ligne 6 du MRT de Dacca

Ligne 6 du MRT de Dacca

Dhaka Metro Rail is a mass rapid transit system under construction in Dhaka, the capital and busiest city of Bangladesh.

MRT Line 6 consists of 16 elevated stations, each 180 meters long, and 20.1 kilometers of electrified light rail tracks. Except for the depot and some sections of the LRT (Light Rapid Transit) that will run beside it, Line 6 will be elevated over current roadways, largely above road medians, to allow traffic to flow beneath it, with stations likewise elevated.

Dextra supplied various solutions to the project:

  • 50,000 linear meters of Sonitec, an easy-to-assemble and time-saving tube solution used for CSL (crosshole sonic logging) testing of foundation piles.
  • 1,000 Shear Key systems, a post-tensioning bar system that acts as a permanent seismic restrainer for the connection of elevated metro precast segments.
  • More than 50,000 Bartec couplers were also used for the reinforcement of the station structures.

Line 6 construction was anticipated to be completed in 2022.

Lien vers l'aéroport de Brisbane

Lien vers l'aéroport de Brisbane

The Brisbane Airport Link is a motorway connecting Brisbane’s business district to the northeast of the city, towards the airport. The construction of the line has been done in segments, with parts of the route already operational. Full completion is planned for 2024.

Dextra has been involved in the design, engineering, and supply of large PRF Soft Eyes for Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) entry/exit points between 2009 and 2011.

Before the construction of the D-Wall, Dextra engineers designed the PRF cage, considering factors such as the size of the TBM, margin for error, soil forces, and other design parameters.

Thanks to the properties of PRF material, Tunnel Boring Machines can cut through the D-Wall in minimal time, saving schedule time and ensuring the TBM’s head remains in perfect condition.

For this project, Dextra also supplied Griptec couplers, which were used as vertical connections in the D-Walls, barrette piles, and tunnel superstructures. More than 80,000 Griptec couplers have been supplied for the tunnels of the Brisbane Airport Link.

Ligne 1 du métro de HCMV : station du chantier naval de Ba Son

The Ho Chi Minh City Metro is Vietnam’s first rapid transit system, serving the country’s economic and financial capital.

There will be eight lines in the metro system. Lines 1, 2, and 5 are in the implementation stage, while the remaining lines are in the investment planning stage.

Line 1 of the project is 19.7 kilometers long, with a 2.5-kilometer underground segment and a 17.2-kilometer elevated section. Line 1 will run from Ben Thanh Market in the central area to Suoi Tien amusement park in District 9. There are three underground stations within the underground section. Line 1 also crosses the Saigon River.

Line 1 Package 1b comprises the construction of the underground section from Opera House station to Ba Son station, including two underground stations and a 1,315-meter subway tunnel.

The Shimizu-Maeda Joint Operation selected Dextra’s concrete reinforcement solutions to reduce steel congestion in heavily reinforced areas. A total of 230,000 headed bars were delivered and installed for shear link reinforcement.

Mae Fah Luang Chiang Rai Airport – Renovation & Expansion

Mae Fah Luang Chiang Rai Airport – Renovation & Expansion

Mae Fah Luang Chiang Rai Airport, located in Chiang Rai, Thailand, is a vital transportation hub for the region. Serving as a gateway to popular tourist destinations like Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, and the Golden Triangle, the airport has recently undergone a significant renovation and expansion project aimed at modernizing its facilities and increasing its capacity. As part of this project, Dextra supplied over 180 tons of Goujon bars for use as construction joints in the airport’s runway pavement.

The construction of a runway pavement requires careful planning and preparation. One essential component of the runway pavement is the construction joint, which connects individual concrete slabs. These joints are necessary to ensure that the pavement can withstand the heavy loads of aircraft and endure extreme weather conditions. Without proper construction joints, the pavement may experience cracking, spalling, and other types of damage.

Goujon bars are a critical component of construction joints, as they facilitate load transfer between individual concrete slabs. Typically made of steel, Goujon bars are placed perpendicular to the construction joint, allowing for movement between the concrete slabs while providing support and enabling efficient load transfer.

For the Mae Fah Luang Chiang Rai Airport project, Dextra supplied over 35,000 Goujon bars, totaling more than 180 tons of steel. The Goujon bars were manufactured at Dextra’s facility in Thailand and delivered to the construction site in stages to meet the project’s timeline.

The successful completion of this project has not only increased the airport’s capacity but also improved its safety and reliability, providing a more efficient transportation hub for the region.

Visakh Refinery Modernisation Project is a brownfield expansion of the Visakh refinery located in Visakhapatnam, India.

The project will expand the refining capacity from 8.3MMTPA (millions of metric tonnes per annum) to 15MMTPA, while enabling the production and distribution of the fuels that comply with Bharat Stage-VI, a new emission standard instituted by the Government of India.

Dextra was involved in the expansion by supplying Unitec bolted couplers for precast beam connections.

Unitec is a bolted splicing system designed for the connection of two rebars with no thread: its screws will lock both bar ends and complete the connection.

The Visakh Refinery Modernisation project is scheduled for completion in 2020.

Déclassement de Sellafield

Déclassement de Sellafield

Sellafield is a now-decommissioned nuclear plant site that specialized in fuel reprocessing and the decommissioning of other UK and international reactors. It is located in Cumbria, in the North West of England.

Dextra was involved in supplying rebar connection solutions for the construction of new buildings in 2008 through its local rebar fabricator partner in the UK.

Griptec was the preferred rebar splicing solution as it is certified for TA1-A, TA1-B, and TA1-C (“Sellafield” certification level), the three main levels of rebar splice certifications by CARES.

Griptec features an unmatched performance level and an automatic testing process that systematically tests all connections produced as part of its standard cycle—a guarantee that 100% of the connections perform above the project requirements.

More than 80,000 Griptec connections have been used on the project, mostly for wall applications.

Usine de retraitement des déchets nucléaires de La Hague – le stockage intermédiaire

Usine de retraitement des déchets nucléaires de La Hague – le stockage intermédiaire

The La Hague site is a nuclear fuel reprocessing facility located in La Hague, northern France. The plant has been treating spent nuclear waste from several countries since the 1960s.

Currently operated by AREVA NC, the facility now handles nearly half of the world’s spent nuclear fuel recycling and reprocessing capacity, including waste from France itself, as well as from Japan, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, Australia, Spain, and the Netherlands.

The reprocessing plant also separates waste based on radioactive activity and lifespan, applying specific storage solutions for each type. To reinforce the plant’s two recently constructed nuclear waste storage buildings, the main contractor, VINCI – Travaux Publics Cherbourg, opted for Dextra’s 100%-proofed splicing system, Griptec, supplied through its local fabricators in France.

Griptec, coupleurs de barres d'armature hautes performances pour les projets nucléaires du monde entier

For the construction of nuclear projects, full-performance reinforcement solutions are required. This is why Création Griptec was the preferred choice for this project, as it is also AFCEN-certified, meeting international standards for nuclear plants. More than 5,000 tons of Dextra Griptec Systems were delivered on-site for the construction of two storage buildings, both intended to store uranium and plutonium.

Griptec couplers are used to reinforce the storage buildings’ walls, as they offer full performance in tension, compression, cyclic loading, and fatigue resistance. This solution leaves no room for error, as each connection is systematically proof-tested by a non-destructive tensile test during the extrusion cycle as part of its standard process, ensuring performance above project requirements.

Moreover, for our customers in the nuclear industry, Dextra provides more than just reinforcement solutions—we also support designers, consultants, and contractors throughout each stage of their construction projects.
