Kuwait’s largest infrastructure project
to be enhanced with Dextra solutions
Aspiring to become a regional hub, Kuwait airport increases its capacity
The Kuwait Airport Expansion project aims to meet the country’s rapid and significant economic growth and satisfy the steadily-rising passenger and cargo flow.
The new Terminal II is designed not only to provide highest comfort to passengers, but also to reflect Kuwait’s rich culture and civilization. When completed, the building will have the form of a symmetrical triangular mark. Passenger capacity of the airport will increase to 25 million in the first phase of the expansion, which would be more than double of what it is currently handling.
Kuwait’s Ministry of Public Works has elaborated very stringent specifications for this landmark project, which requires UK CARES and US ASME certifications from the manufacturer. Rolltec® couplers were therefore a natural choice for the contractor Limak Insaat, as they meet all the client’s requirements in terms of performance and quality, and the client could count on a strong local presence and support from Dextra.
Standard Rolltec® couplers are extensively used for the raft, walls and columns connections of the entire terminal. Furthermore, weldable couplers were delivered for the connection of the ninety precast mega-columns with the steel roof structure.
To support the supply of over 1 million connections, Dextra has deployed fifteen Rolltec® threading machines to site. The project completion date is set in 2020.

Reinforcing India’s new elevated road
Barapullah Elevated Corridor takes advantage of Dextra’s fully-threaded PT bars
Barapullah Elevated corridor is a major infrastructure project in India. The main purpose of this extension is to ease traffic congestion, as well as to provide a new express connectivity between Indira Gandhi International Airport and east Delhi.
For the construction of this flyover, Dextra has been supplying its fully-threaded PT bars, as well as its well-known Bartec rebar splicing solution to the contractor L&T Construction.
Le PT bar systems were applied in temporary applications of the construction project. Dextra fully-threaded post-tensioning bars are currently being used for lifting and launching the precast elements of the expressway’s elevated structures.
Connect the country with Dextra’s bar systems
A 196-kilometer fast link between the Center to the East of Thailand
The Bang Pa-In to Nakhon Ratchasima four-lane motorway aims to reduce the travel time to the North-East and consequently improve the connection to neighboring Laos, as well as facilitate a better distribution of income throughout the region. When completed, it will connect major urban centers within the Greater Mekong Sub-region. The project is planned to last until 2020, having been started in 2016.
For the construction of the motorway’s elevated structure, the contractors of different packages opted for Dextra’s Bartec couplers to save time and money on the mechanical connection of the diameter 20mm to 32mm reinforcement bars.
Further to this, Dextra’s Sonitec CSL tubes were installed for cross hole sonic logging tests in the piling, and smooth and fully-threaded PT bars for both temporary (lifting and launching girder assembly) and permanent applications in segments.

Dextra’s rockbolts for Hong Kong’s 12- hectares new residential area
Hong Kong’s Anderson Road Quarry, located at the north-eastern of East Kowloon, will be transformed into a 12-hectares brand-new residential and commercial area.
For the Underpass segment of this project, which involves the construction of a tunnel path, Dextra supplied both its high-performance steel and GFRP rockbolts. The first solution is used for the tunnel roof support, while the second one is installed at the face of the tunnel as a temporary support.
